Just returned from my 2900mi 335 Euro Delivery trip
I just wanted to give another ringing endorsement to the European Delivery program, especially for those who have never considered it or are sitting on the fence.
I returned from a 2900 miles trip that took me from Munich, to Lake Como, to Cote D'Azur, to Provence, to the Rhine/Mosel valleys, to Nurburgring and back to Munich. It was an amazing trip (our 2nd ED) in an amazing car, driving on some of the best roads that Europe has to offer. The highlight drives of the trip were the Stelvio Pass in Italy, the N85 Route Napoleon in France and the B500 Black Forest Highway in Germany. And then of course, to top it all, was the Ring. As an enthusiast it was the crowning drive of an otherwise great trip. So if you're sitting on the fence, or perhaps wondering what the big deal is, consider these points: - BMW pays for 1-2 weeks of your romp through Europe (depending on your spending level). - BMW pays for one airplane ticket. Buy 1, get the 2nd one free. - You get treated very well, get to see any BMW factory if you want. - You drive your shiny new car onto the roads it was meant for, in locales to die for. Drive it on the Ring for the ultimate experience. - You get to experience all the best that Europe has to offer in terms of culinary art, culture and geography. Well, at least as many of them as you can cram into your vacation time. - Yes, you have to wait 4-6 weeks for the car to make it home. But the memories will last a lifetime. For those interested, I have posted more details and many photos here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...reat+adventure (Check out at the very end the variety of cars found at the Ring) |

Looks and sounds like you had an amazing trip. Love the combo, and I can't wait to get started on my ED in a few months. Thanks for the pics.

glad you had a great time with your ED. How old is your son and how did he handle the trip? I took my 1.5 year old son too and he had a great time for most part. He would end up taking a nap in the back and we were able to make time to go to different places.
I am thinking of doing it again after my current lease is up in 3 years. He will be 5 by then and I think will enjoy the places a little more.

Damn, I thought I did a ton of driving at 1300 miles. Two thumbs up also, that was a trip of a lifetime. If you do go don't be one of those idiots that flys in picks up the car, drops it off, and leaves the same day just to get a cheaper price.

He was 3.75 years old at the time , and he did just fine. We only had 2 days of long driving during the trip - everything else was short sections interrupted by fun activities.
For the longer legs, we used the old tested method of toy bribing, and I can happily report it works very well. A new small toy every day. Quote:

Don't worry, you'll do better on your second one. We did around 1300 miles on our first ED too...

Nah - after sensing all the buzz, the excitement at the Ring entrance, it would have been crazy not to do it...

(Speaking of which, you can ask around in the ED forums on bimmerfest.com to find the dealer. In my area, I'd only trust one guy to give me a hassle-free low price ED experience). |

Don't trying to be a smart $$$: -- BMW pays insurance for 14 days . -- Lufthansa 2 for 1 - you have to pay tax for second tickets. And Price for first one is way above what you can get on Expedia on Orbitz. -- for owners on the west coast wait time is 7-8 weeks (some time more) But you absolutely right - was an amazing trip! :rocks: One more time - Congratulation!

My whole reason for doing ED is to save money. Assuming I can get $500 over ED invoice, then how much am I saving after all the costs? I plan only to fly there (from California), pick up the car, drop it off, then go back here. |

Congrats! Looks like you had an amazing trip! Nice color combo too!
Hey did you leave the short-shifter on there for the shipment back or did you switch it back. I thought you couldn't leave mods on the car for the shipment. |

I heard on the other forum that they dont allow ED plates aka Zoll plates on the Ring anymore... I was surprised to hear that you were able to take your ED car on the ring.
The ticket is not paid by BMW its a special by Lufthansa for BMW ED customers.
