Wow, a new thread.
I'm loving the pinpoint AF of my new 5D MkIII. I thought I'd miss the sensor-crop of my 7D, but the AF of the 5D3 is so much more accurate that my keepers are two or three times higher. I had a dozen shots to chose from of the fellow below, all of which were tack-sharp: Bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark... by dcstep, on Flickr

Where are all the 1D-X pix?
Here's one of the last from the 7D. I still own it, but it's relegated to second-body. Brown pelican, probably looking down at my brother. by dcstep, on Flickr

Come on guys. Find the thread and start posting again.
Here's a hand held moon shot that worked out really nicely. Usually, when the moon is so low to the horizon that its orange, your shots will not be sharp because of smog, moisture, etc. in the atmosphere. For this shot, a front had just gone through and blew out all the bad stuff and I got a good, clean shot at a low moon. This is hand held with my new 5D MkIII and 700mm of lens: "Explore #66" - The moon was rising when I got home... by dcstep, on Flickr

wondered why the old one was so quiet.
Dave/anyone else you gonna shoot this? http://www.spacedex.com/perseids/ I don't think I can get far enough away from Chicago that night to do it. |

Thanks for mentioning it. I might give the ole 5D MkIII its first long-exposure test. Dave

It's gonna be northeast facing so shooting off the mountains into the plains would be kinda cool. Too bad its not NW facing so you could shoot back at the mountains (assuming you live around Denver).

I may have to buy some stacking software, but I don't have a astromomy head. I will try some high ISO. Dave

they say 50-70 miles from any major city to eliminate the brightness. You need a PITCH BLACK sky for good shots

I don't shoot a lot of vehicles normally, but this one had the roundel. This was taken two days ago on the Old Mission Peninsula in Michigan. At the top of my blog (link in the signature below) there are two posts with a total of 30 varied images from this area. More are likely to be added as several days are left to the trip.

Great travel shots Diver. I particularly like the Breakfast/Beer shot on your blog.
