Procede Help Needed Please!

So I purchased a used Procede Rev2 v4 unlocked from a forum member and followed the vid. I didnt unhook the battery because the video didnt show that- now i'm regretting that decision . Since i had v1.47 on my last car- i thought the Rev2 would be a breeze with the pre made harness...Long story short- i go through the hole video - go to start the car- and the car keeps cranking and cranking without starting. Also flashing the alert that 'Passenger restraint malfunction' and 'electrical problem- head to nearest bmw dealer etc...' So i unhooked everything, tried to return it to stock, but it still wont start and gives me the same error codes. My best guess is that something got swapped at the green power connector. I got confused and had accidently put the orange power wire in the wrong postion, so i moved the connector and put it back into the hole that i thought it should be. Now i'm not sure i put the correct orange wire back the proper position- the pic is below of the wires i'm talking about. Is there any way to tell which orange wire is the proper position for each? is there a number on the wire that indicates what its for? I'm so bummed i cant even drive the car now...any help is appreciated...

Just make sure you have power (12VDC) on those two wires with the ignition on. The connectors are labeled, and the two wires go into slots 2 and 8. Simple as that. Otherwise check for a blown fuse in the E-box and under the dash at the fuse panel behind the glove box.

hmmm so your saying that the two orange wires at the bottom of the green connector have some labels that tell which slot they go into? i think i messed up and swapped those two if i knew for sure which one one went to slot 2 or 8 then i could eliminate that as the cause. Also, which is the 'E box'- i found the one behind the glove box and checked for shorts in the seatbelt and the fuse was fine. i'm trying just start this stock for the time being so i know at least the basics are correct before re installing any procede..thanks for the replies!

Well, those orange wires are not individually labeled, IIRC. Did you pull both out at the same time and forget which one went into slot 2 and 8? That could be a possible cause for concern.

The fuse panel behind the glovebox is called the Junction Box in BMW lingo. You can get a test light from any auto parts store and check all the fuses for power at BOTH sides. Each fuse has a tiny hole in the plastic where you can probe with a test light without having to pull each one out. Sometimes they can look OK but be blown where you can't see.

I did that momentarily and fixed the issue prior to starting the car. It's simple to figure out where the pins go. Look at where the other wires go on the other harness. And match them on the otherside.

There are a couple of fuses in the E-box where the ECU/Procede reside. They are the large orange 40A fuses. May be one or two depending on model.

The orange wire only has 2 connectors which lines up to 2 wires, make sure you have them in the correct holes. Did you take both orange wires out? or just the 1? if it's just the one, make sure it's lined up with the receiving end of the harness.

The wire should only be able to insert in one direction due to the design of the pin.

The car still cranks right?

yep it still cranks but wont start and throws a bunch of warnings...I removed both the orange wires and tried swapping them so at this point i have no idea which orange wire belongs in which hole- i want to solve that first before i try to go to the dealer..

I'm going to install my procede tonight, If you want... I will take pictures tonight.

Did you put the slip in harnesses into the correct plugs? One time... under my own stupidity i some how got the slip clips on the harness into the wrong connectors and it set off all kinds of CEL and wouldn't start, just turn, turn turn turn.. and nothing would happen. I uninstalled the procede and reinstalled it into the correct clips and BOOOM! Fired right up.

Thanks!

so you re installed the procede and everything was fine? I'm just worried that my ecu is fried and even with the procede working properly it wont start. Could you do me a favor and take a pic of those two orange wires going into the green connector at 2 and 8 before you attach the procede?. I saw some writing on them i wonder if they contain any markings to differentiate them and i could put those back in proper position to eliminate one more variable...thanks

yes, i will do that tonight for you.

yes, my car started right up, but my procede was not working correctly. If you tried to use the cruise control stalk to change maps it wouldn't move so I knew I had wires mixed up somewhere. It's crazy that they slipped into the wrong hole (hate when that happens) i bet it's from me installing and uninstalling the procede so much that the clips are worn on my unit.

Here's a nice vid showing how to install the Proceed. It shows the green clip with orange wires in the middle of the vid. Just pause it and you can see where they go.

** Ignore the black spliced wire. I broke a clip and was in a hurry.

See the orange wire on the right hand side. This wire goes to

The wire that loops back towards the power supply.

The other wire that is black on my harness, orange on yours goes straight back towards the fire wall

*** In the small band you see 2 wires, the one that goes towards the fire wall is the wire on the left (black on mine) and the one that curves towards the green clip is the right wire (orange on mine)

I also provided a picture of how the plugs should sit in the harness

And all wires plugged in flat, so you can put the lid back on.

Hope this helps!

So many orange wires.

This may help with green and blue.

Good luck man, I gotta run! I will check back tomorrow.

DME isnt FRIED! THANKS EVERYONE!

Hi Michael-
thanks so much for posting those detailed pics- that would have helped me last night when i was doing the re-install...unfortunately i didnt have my laptop outside so i didnt know you posted those so quickly! Regardless i think it will help somebody in the future who gets in over their head like me. Well long story short- like many people suggested- i decided to re- intstall the procede because i was half way there already having the box opened and I knew that the procede would remove all the codes that had been thrown so that i could start the car again...So i unhooked everything a step at a time and carefully re- installed the procede harness. One tip that i can share is the orange power connector that everyone seems to break because its so snug can be made much easier to remove with Pb blaster! I struggled trying to pull the connection apart and knew that if i didnt use some sort of lubricant that i would probably damage the wires somehow. i sprayed a little bit on the connection- waited 10 min and pulled on the connecdtion- came right apart! Nice! now i could swap those orange wires easily! After re connecting everything with the 2 and 8 wires in the proper place i crossed my fingers and tried the ignition....It started right Up! SO So happy! and the tune was working with no Codes! So, like everybody said- if it keeps cranking, something isnt hooked up right and most likely the procede isnt getting power- which was def the case. Its amazing how something seemingly simple can be so daunting sometimes. Once again- thanks to all the helpful suggestions and Pics from Michael- this is a great forum

1400 Dme to basically get my car back to stock was weighing heavily on me! It helps to get opinions esp positive ones so you can be motivated to try again-otherwise your mind can go crazy thinking- 'what have i done to my perfectly good car...'
