Auto Lights & Folding Mirrors

Anyone know if there is a way of turning down the sensitivity of the auto lights on and also if there is a way of folding the mirrors in when the ignition is turned off and then folding them out when you start up??

Can't find anything in the manual but I may be blind!

Thanks all.

they need to be manually folded out by depressing the button, or drive off and you 'pass 25mph' they automatically come out matey

and what do you mean by autolights? daytime running lights?

If you have Pro Sat-Nav, in the Settings menu you can set the sensitivity of the Auto Lights via i-Drive. I don't think there are any settings in i-Drive that let you set up folding mirror behaviour.

Some of the i-Drive user settings can be set by the dealer if you don't have i-Drive, so might be worth asking them.

Thanks chaps, I'll have a look in the settings menu.

By autolights I mean the sensitivity of the sensor to automatically put the lights on for you when it starts to get dark. Mine come on when it's still pretty light.

Yep - that's the exact option in i-Drive. Though I have noticed in my last 2 BMWs, in certain bright sunlight, the auto lights still come on. I guess it must be a fairly complex sensor that works out direct sunlight, ambient light etc and even it gets fooled sometimes.

I have also found that the Xenons have come on during both low light and sunlight that is low in the sky.
I was probably being naive by thinking that the low sun in the sky decision was on purpose due to it being hard to see in such situations.

If you dont have iDrive, you can take it into the dealer and have the sensitivity set to the lower setting. They do have a tendancy to come on a little early on the default setting and I was feeling like a bit of a pillock driving around at 1pm in glorious sunlight and headlamps

Had my previous Z4 set to be less sensitive and they still came on in bright sunshine, just going to live with my E93 as they are, love the auto headlights in all other respects.

The light sensor works on incident infra red wavelengths- more info in this thread.

Thats funny I was going to post something up about autolights myself. I have Xenons on my car. When I have the daytime running lights to on and autolights to on, my dip beam are always on. How do I get my sidelights to be on automatically. I have had a 325 i M sport coupe at work today, and with its lights on auto it just had the rings on!!

When I turn my daytime running off I have no lighs on until it gets dusk.

I hope this makes sense?!

I wish the mirrors did auto fold sometimes, mercs do that apparently, however if you had pulled into a tight spot (e.g. near garage wall) you probably would be glad they don't auto fold out!!!! Bet a few people have been caught out by that.

What is your first question in english Fandangomeister ? Are you referring to some mythical garage and auto set of folding mirrors ? I'm sure there is a situation with either auto folding or non-folding where you can park in a spot so tight that either automatically or manually you totally fandango your mirrors yes

I could try interpreting:

Have I f***ing well parked daddy's car in the garage & f***ed the mirrors up?

Where the f**k has mummy put the keys?

Do my f***ing lights blind anyone when I drive around with the full beam on all day?
