Ipod Adapter Compatability With Hd??
Has anyone tried using an portable/external hard drive instead of an i-pod?? I think I saw somewhere that people were using thumb drives as their media device.. is the i-pod adapter just a USB outlet that you can connect via the i-pod usb charger (like the ones you use to connect with computers)???

Thumb drives work great. My 120GB WD USB hard drive does not. I've also tried microdrives in a USB reader with no luck (but CF cards do work).
I use an SD card reader with 4GB SD cards. The little coin slots hold the SD cards perfectly. |

The problem with hard drives is that some draw more current to spin the drive up than can be supplied by the 6FL USB. I imagine that with a separate power supply they would work (assuming FAT formatting).

iPods do have disks up to 80 gb but they also have a battery that can supply the current to spin up the drive. For an iPod, the car charges the battery and does not directly power the drive.
