At last managed to get some time this weekend to polish the motor.

Reasonably happy with the results, although silver just doesn't have the same wow factor as polishing a (say) black or red car. That said, I do need to get a wheel refurbed (after a silly mistake ) and have noticed a carpark ding, so will probably have to get chipsaway or similar to get to work on it.

Anyway enough talking and I'll let the pictures do the rest.

Used that Ice stuff and its really is good as you don't have to worry about getting it on rubber or glass, as it comes off really easy and doesn't leave a chalky residue

This stuff:



Comes with the applicator sponge and the microfibre towel. Not expensive and seems to do a very good job. Especially as you can use it on the M Sport window trim etc without worrying about it coming into contact with rubber seals etc.

My only complaint is it's not very coarse, so the purists would probably want to use a clay bar before application (although I didn't).

Polishing by hand is very hard, and damn near impossible on a BMW with it's hard paint. Hell, machine polishing on a BMW is very hard. You want something with fillers in (which the Ice stuff may well do), so that it fills the tiny scratches in your paint, and makes it shine at the same time.

Autoglym Super Resin polish is fantastic for this - and i think it is the best product out there as an all round product. It's been tried and tested time and time again. SRP isn't really a polish (although it may have slightly mild abrasives in it), it is more a filler and a paint cleanser and a sealant in one. I'd definitely recommend it.

And once you have filled the swirls in with the SRP (2 or 3 applications will see 90% of the small swirls simply disappear!), you'd want a tough wax such as Collinite 476s to lock in those fillers, so they don't wash away when you next clean the car, exposing all the swirl marks/micro scratches again. Collinite is fantastic stuff - one application can protect the pain for 8-12 months and it beads wonderfully for many months after the application.

U you should poor boys. I use poor boys blackhole as a glaze then use natty paste wax over the top, leaves the car like glass and is a unreal shine, best thing about it is it's very easy to put on and very easy to take off

Maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but why do you only have the Mtech Rocker panel only on the passenger side and a regular Sport Rocker panel on the driver side?

I really think the silver can pop its metalic paint like any other colour car. Its just finding the right ones. For me mainly autoglym clay and hd wax. But i seal with fk 1000 and top up with fk 425.

+1 well spotted. Weird eh? Maybe a mis-repair by a bodyshop..?
