Thumbs up First Mod: M-Sport Steering Wheel

After reading E90post.com for many months, I finally gave in to the the urge to mod my car. Also, it was my birthday recently, so I treated myself to an M-Sport steering wheel from eBay (£183), and today I fitted in in about an hour and a half, following the instructions in this thread.

I found the most difficult part was getting the airbag out - quite tricky, but it came out in the end once I got the knack.

I'm *very* pleased with the result - the M-Sport wheel is so much better (chunkier and softer) than the thinner harder "Sport" steering wheel fitted as standard to my 335d SE.

Here are some before and after pics.

Good job. Agree, the M wheel is just that little bit more chunky and feels better to hold.

can you get a side by side picture of the stock wheel and the Mtech wheel? I'd like to see how much of a difference there is in thickness between both.

thanks

There are some comparison pictures in the install thread I mentioned, on page 11 here

But pictures don't really convey how different it feels - you could see if your local dealer has an M-Sport and see it in person.

Sorry, but I actually prefer the look of the M Sport wheel. The 'individual' wheel looks rather ungainly in my opinion. Not liking the wood insert. But I'm sure it's great for you.

Yes, for some reason it seems the 335d auto SEs were fitted with steering wheels without the thumb grips. I thought this was because the thumb grips might have got in the way of the paddles, but now the M-Sport versions are out, the auto (with paddles) gets thumb grips after all. I don't know if the 335d SEs are still fitted with the plain wheel.
