Maintenance Recommendation - Advise Please 85,000
Hello all,
I wanted to get your guys' input before I head out to the shop. I wanted to get some better understanding on what exactly is needed/recommended at my current mileage with all of the items that I've already replaced/maintained. Current mileage = 85,000 Here's what I've done to the car so far: Smog Check: 4/2012 @ 80,000 K&N Air Filter recharge: 80,000 Spark Plugs: 6 Laser Iridium 75,000 Microfilter: 80,000 Water Pump: 83,000 Thermostat: 83,000 Brake Pad Sensors: 83,000 Belt Tensioner: 83,000 Battery: 83,000 Expansion Tank Cap: 83,000 Coolant Flush: 83,000 Engine Oil: 83,000 Synthetic I know that I need a brake fluid flush, will be doing that something next month for sure. Brake Fluid Flush - Sept Aside from that, what else should I be looking forward to and around when? Based on what I gather, I have the following to worry about. Rotors? Break pads? Oxygen Sensor? Accessory Drive Belts? Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter? Differential Fluids? Fuel Filter? Coolant Hoses? Thanks team! |

How long have you owned this car? The services you say were performed answer some of your own questions. Did you have the services done, or the previous owner?
Rotors? - Wait until the CBS tells you the pads need replacement, then replace both the rotors along with the pads. But you said the brake pad sensors were replaced at 83,000, and the sensors would have been replaced during a brake pad replacement, so it sounds like you already had a brake job done. Break pads? - See above. Oxygen Sensor? - BMW says they should be replaced at 120,000 miles. They are expensive. I usually wait until the Service Engine Soon light (OBD II indicator) and resultant code says one is bad (there are 4 total in the system) Accessory Drive Belts? - There is just one for a 325i. If you had the belt tesioner replaced they should have replaced the belt too, check the repair bill. Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter? - BMW calls for service of the auto transmisson fluid at 100,000 miles, you can do it earlier than that if you want. Differential Fluids? - BMWs calls for repalcement at 100,000 miles; same as above. Fuel Filter? - It is not a preventative maitenance item. It is in the fuel tank and integrated into the fuel pump and is expensive to replace since it is basically replacing the fuel pump too. Coolant Hoses? - Generally coolant hoses on modern cars last at least 150,000 miles. Inspect them for cracks, bubles, and leaks. If they are hard (they should be soft) then they should be replaced. Brake fluid is changed every two years, the CBS tells you when to have the service done. Last edited by Efthreeoh; 08-18-2012 at 07:53 AM.. |
