Gumout Fuel Injector Cleaner
From their website...
Use of a low quality, discount gasoline can reduce your engine's performance. Your vehicle may experience poor fuel economy, lost horsepower, hesitation, and rough idling. Use of Gumout® fuel additives can help solve some of these issues. Cleans fuel injectors Cleans intake valves and ports Prevents future deposit buildup Restores lost horsepower Safe for use in turbo & supercharged vehicles Helps reduce emissions Will not void OEM/manufacturer's warranty My question is, is this effective on our platform? I recalled seeing something about products like this and seafoam not being effective due to direct injection. Can someone chime in and shed some light for me ?

I'm going to say no because we have a DI motor and fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber. This seems to be the norm for all cleaners on the market. Walnut blasting is the best bet from what I've read and researched for intake valve cleaning.

gumout is a petroleum based fuel additive. Think of it this way...if you have dirty water in a pool and you add clean water. that dirty water might be very slightly diluted, but it is not clean in any way. think about how much fuel you have, build up, etc and how much gumout you're adding.
You need a synthetic additive to address issues. Also, the whole DI system on our car makes walnut blasting a more effective method of cleaning out engine deposits than additives. Unless the additive is being used to inhibit combustion chamber deposits rather than clean existing deposits. |
