Big Problems After PROcede Install...((((SOLVED))))
OK...looking for some help here before I have to tow my 2 week old 335i back to the dealership.
I followed the install video to the letter, all went well, both test steps went perfectly. 2-3 min. idle with bridged connectors went fine, 2-3 min. idle with PROcede connected went fine. I put everythig back together and tried to start the car again and....nada. My car didn't start and I was getting several indicator warnings: 1) Dynamic Stability Control (Yellow)- Trangle with ! in the middle and the almost full circle arrow. 2) Drive - off assistant (yellow) - Circle with ! in the middle and bold ( ) on each side of circle. 3) Automatic selector lever locked or Break signal malfunctioning (Yellow) - Gear symbol with ! in the middle. 4) Car up on lift light. My car cranked up but did not turn over. I double and triple checked all the connections, effectively re-intalling it from scratch making sure eveything was secure, still had the same problems. Being that I needed my car, I unintalled the wire harness and put things back to stock. I still have the same problems. I am 100% certain that all the wires are secure and back to their original places. I tried to play with the error code reader, after it goes Launch 1-2-3 I get the following: The number 4 flashes, followed by 5 and then the letter "E", not sure if I did this correctly. I will read the manual and try again. Lastly, which vacunm hose goes to the back solenoid nipple, the one with the "T" in it or the one without, I forgot. Guys...any suggestions would be extreamly appreciated. Regards, Marc Last edited by Mr_T; 07-21-2007 at 11:19 AM.. |

This is an easy one.
One or both of the ECU connectors aren't plugged into the ECU all the way. This is the only thing that i've seen that would keep the engine from actually starting. Give them a wiggle, I bet you can pull them off without having to pull out the sliders. That would be bad. If that is the case, you'll need to plug in the ECU connectors properly. Just like unplugging them. But in reverse. ie, extend the sliders. Plug in the connector squarely. Push in the sliders and make sure the connector 'drops' into the ECU. Also, make sure you slid the subconnectors back into the connectors (yep, i've seen that mistake before). Same goes for any other connector you may have disconnected during the installation (to make more room, for instance.) Also, make sure that when you hooked up the PROcede's ground loop, that the factory ground loop didn't pop off of the bolt. Both loops (stock and PROcede) need to be hooked up to that ground bolt. These are the only causes I know of that could cause the lightshow/nonstarting issues that you describe. Shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 07-20-2007 at 06:45 PM.. |

Shiv,
Thanks for the reply, I spoke to Dustin, who I think spoke to you while we were on the phone. I can assure you that the ECU connectors and Grounds are secured properly. As per Dustin's suggestion, I will take a volt meter to the fuse to see if I have power; I will also make sure all the other connectors are secured. I will PM/Email you as things progress ( hopefully in the right direction). Thanks for your support! Regards, Marc |

OK...a bit embarrassing, but I'll man up. I re-thought the install while I was trying to sleep and realized that after I completed the 2nd check step which went perfectly (Idle with PROcede connected); I disconnected the ground on the PROcede because I didn't like the way I routed the wire. Wouldn't you know it, the cars stock ground loop fell off and I never noticed it. Dustin/Shiv...you pegged it!
I re-installed the PROcede this morning and everything seems to be running perfectly! I now need to take her out on some open road to open it up! I just want to say that the install process is quite simple; you just need to check you work and not make stupid mistakes. Me being as low as you can go on the "Gear Head" scale, I panicked a bit because I didn't know what potential damage I may/could have caused; it looked real bad. However after talking to Dustin and Shiv, they assured me that everything would turn out fine. They were right! Dustin/Shiv...thanks for all the help! Regards, Marc |

Kudos to you Mr T! I am glad that you were able to catch your own mistake, and thats saying alot. That being said, is there anything that can be changed in the instructions for the rest of us that would help us avoid your pitfall? Any pictures of this stock ground loop that fell off? It could be helpful for the rest of us Proceed wanabes. |

I triple checked every other step in the process and completely missed this one. I didn't really catch my mistake; it was Shiv and Dustin who provided me with some trouble shooting suggestions. I just remembered how it happened. The guys at Vishnu are 100% supportive and seem to work out every issue I have seen and read on various forums. All I can say is watch the video about 5+ times and print the instructions in the Vishnu PROcede Install Support forum: http://www.vishnutuningforum.com/for...hread.php?t=52 Here is another helpful bit of info as you install or un-install: Ok.. here's the info you need to unjumble the wires The yellow wire that went into pin 10 (which gets connected to green PROcede loom) has the number 1324 stamped on it. The yellow wire that went into pin 29 (which gets connected to white PROcede loom) has the number 494 stamped on it. The yellow/white wire that went into pin 6 on the small ecu connector (which gets connected to one of the yellow PROcede looms) has the number 525 stamped on it. The yellow/white wire that went into pin 7 on the small ecu connector (which gets connected to the other yellow PROcede loom) does not seem have any number stamped on it (at least on the few cars I looked at). There... this should get you back to stock. Who loves ya? cheers, shiv Regards, Marc |
