PEOPLE Near Poughkeepsie or Hyde Park HELP!

I need to find a house ASAP within the next 4 months in that area.
Just from the looks of google map, lower Poughkeepsie area seems like a complete ghetto, and the mid/upper Hyde Park area seems like it's deserted and could come out in Cabin in the Woods horror movie!

I need recommendation for exact areas to look for! Budget around $400k

Look up that area in Google Maps Street View. Don't know if they took the pictures during a gloomy autumn day but, it does look deserted. No doubt about that. And the crime statistics in Poughkeepsie downtown area is in fact actually bad. http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ny/poughkeepsie/crime/

Went to college in Poughkeepsie, downtown is crap. You should check out Wappingers Falls, Hyde Park, or Rhinebeck a little further north is nice.

Why you moving there anyway, job at IBM?

Verdict is don't move into the city of PK. Town of PK, lagrange, wappingers, hyde park, rhinebeck, fishkill, etc are all better options. Much less ghetto and more suburban than anything. Even the southern part of city of PK is better (south of 44/55/hooker ave and the mid hudson bridge)

A lot of the night life is in downtown PK but I wouldn't want to live right by it. Unless you go waterfront condos/townhouses but those are $$$.

Realistically everything is within a 5-10min drive if you hop on rt9, 44, 55, 376, 52 etc from those locations.
