high output alternator
I am installing a multi amp system in my friends E92, and have calculated the maz potential current draw at about 150A. I am having trouble finding a high output alternator, or someone that can re-wind the stock one to a higher output.
Any Suggestions? |

You should be good on the stock alt. Most amps have a regulated power supply so you're not losing a lot of output.
But check your voltage with everything on and the stereo on full blast. You shouldn't get anything less than 12.6V. If you do, then you do need to upgrade your electrical system. I do the battery first. Kinetiks work pretty well...check out ebay. Then look into an alternator rebuild. There are a couple of companies...excessive amperage and ohio generators are the 2 that I use. Most high output rebuilds will run between $300-$400.

thanks,
the last system i put in for him was in his RSX, which had the higher fastory alt, but we still needed to upgrade it to 165A. even then with the second battery during really heavy play time, a little light diming would occur. Alt is easy to get to, so i am going to start with a second stinger deep cell batt on an isolator. 1900W RMS with none being class D can pull close to 150A at max draw. shouldn't ever get there, but we'll see. |
