Caution putting meth tank over amp
I'm doing a 2 day track event, after the second run of the day I got black flagged and had to pull into the pits! The guys reported something dropping from my car. After they walked around, looked in the engine and found nothing wrong, they let me go again.
After my session I pulled in my spot and took my helmet off... That's when I heard it. My speakers were buzzing!! Then I knew it was my meth leaking out the back that they must have seen. Popped the trunk and sure enough, my trunk was swimming in meth. My amp was almost submerged!!!! I started to pull my whole tank out and unplugged the amp after I pulled the negative off my battery. Left it unplugged while I dried everything up as much as I could. So that night I plugged it in again and it worked!!! I guess distilled water and meth mix didn't short it out. Just caution to you guys putting you tank over the amp cuz that thing is $1000 from BMW and around $600 used. This is the logic 7 of course. |

Thats the only reason why I don't install a low level sensor as I felt that connection was weak as hell. I just check my tank to see how low it is. Not having a low level sensor for me eliminated one more location for possible leak in my trunk. Your lucky the amp didn't fry

+1, I have a 2.5 gal tank so really no need for low level sensor. I've never used more than 1.5 gal in one day. Low level sensor was just one more place for it to leak. I'll def keep a closer look now though, mine is right over the amp too.

Wow slopp glad to hear there was no significant damage. Over the amp still seems to be best place if you actually want to use your trunk, since the alternative is to put it over the battery. Sorry to hear this happened to you, and I was always curious about what would happen if it leaked over the amp so now I know.

Only way to fix the issue Sloppy is to get another tank and not installing the low level sensor. I have two sensors at my house collecting dust. I am glad my instincts were right about this cheap ass sensor.

Yikes! This was bound to happen to someone. I really found no harm in a straight 4 quart tank mounted to the backseat. I lost barely any trunk space but I really never used it except to maybe throw in an overnight bag every once in a while.

Now imagine 100% meth and an electric spark from the amp... YIKES!!!
Glad to hear your amp wasn't fried. I used to throw one of the rubber mats from my rear seats under the tank just as a precaution.

I am so cautious that underneath all the plastic in my pass though compartment, I place thick guage plastic bags underneath the enclosure to prevent it from leaking into the Bluetooth module around that area. It's insurance against leaks going beyond the plastic and wetting my electronics. Electrical shorts are the worst and any extra preventive measure will help. So sloppy best bet is to place some plastic bag material ontop of the amp just in case the nozzle adapter begins to leak if so.

Yeah I've been slightly nervous about the location myself. I've been thinking about relocating the amp to under the trunk deck once I have the chance.

noticed similar leaks over my amp as well. so had to remove my amp and re-wire to trunk lid area.
since i had to re-locate my amp anyways, i beefed up the system with a juicy capacitor.

It's all good guys, I'm just happy I didn't fry it and walked away without fire!!!
What I was most pissed about is resorting back to map1 without meth the rest of the time. I can tell you that the car does get heat soaked even with dp and intercooler. The car slowed way down on the far straights as the laps went on, but on meth it was a nice consistent pull every time! |

Same happened to me last year, the headunit stopped working (no sound). I dried up the amp, and just let it be. Apparently they are pretty hardy, it started working again 3 days later, smh...
