320i Converts - A few questions/advice needed about ICE install
Hi guys
Have just bought a 2008 320i M Sport convertible. Ive got the standard BMW professional system in the car and its just not doing it for me. I have read lots of threads about the alpine retro fit kit and also replacing the underseat subs but im wondering if i can make use of the old setup i had in my car: 12inch JL Audio W3v2 and my phoenix gold amp. I would like to keep the professional head unit as don't want to change the head unit - want to keep it OEM looking. I have no clue when it comes to the technical stuff so would REALLY appreciate some help! Would any of the following options be possible? Hoping that option 1 or 2 would work! 1) To get my amp fitted (forgetting about the JL SUB) and have it power just the current underseat subs? This is the amp: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fVX1cW4...e-R-2-5-2.html I could then perhaps turn the bass down on the door speakers and turn the gains up a little on the amp for the subs? 2) To get the phoenix gold amp fitted and have it power the door speakers AND the underseat subs? 3)To get a custom made box for the 12 inch sub with the limited boot space I have and have my Amp to power it. If this is possible could I still have the underseat subs working as well (no need to be amped - just working as usual). Thanks guys.. Apologies again for the questions! Just that every audio specialist I ask is trying to sell me loads of different stuff and I'd like to see if I can keep any of my old stuff! Thanks a lot Suraj |

Your better of using known to work stuff
Your better of using known to work stuff
That means stuff you find in the following thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641323 Older amps tend to have noise problems in this car because they do not have balanced inputs. Also there are not a lot of standard stereo shops that know how to deal with these cars. The name on the Head Unit does not designate which system you are starting out with . It will be the stereo or base system , the Hi Fi system or the l7 (top hi fi system)there are different solution paths for each as described in the thread. Also there are major side effects to changing the head unit if you do it . You can put in a great system without changing it though. Last edited by ctuna; 08-28-2012 at 12:21 PM.. |
