Euro Xenons Question
Did anyone of you have problems installing them? Reading through this forum, it seems that the euros are just simple plug-and-play if you already have Xenons, but I'm having some problem with my passenger side unit.
Once they are installed, I noticed my passenger side does not autolevel when I turn it on (the driver side does), and the bulbs/projector on the passenger side seems to sit higher compare to the driver side. (I tried to use the screw to adjust the height, but that doesn't seem to do much) The strange thing is that I'm not getting an error for the headlight levelling (but I was told I do have a fault code recorded), so I'm just wondering if this is a case of a defective headlight unit or if this is in fact a software error? I took it into one of Toronto's shops that specializes in BMW and they said I might need to get the euro headlight software update to get it to work, or I might even need an euro module to get it to work. Anyone else have this issue? See photos below for comparison. Any help is appreciated!

Kelvin, I really doubt there's an European software for the Euro xenons, like you said, of all the euron xenon threads I've read on E90post, never had I come across one post saying that you need a software update for euro xenons to work. Hopefully Matt and/or ADHD will chime in!
p.s. I have got to see your Euros soon!

I'm no expert and I hope I don't sound like an EDIOT...
I'd try the following: Plug the driver side on the passenger side and passenger on driver side. But, my guess is the plug won't let you do this (passenger side light socket only made to take passenger side car plug) or if you do plug them, the car will throw an error for swapping the lights. see if the driver side light still auto levels when plugged to the passenger side. See if the passenger does not auto level when plugged to the driver side. assuming the car does not bark at you for doing that, you will prove that the problem in in the headlight not the car. Next, start swapping parts from the old headlight to the new. I think there is a control unit for the auto leveling. Maybe you have a defective part. Good luck.

Thanks FrankoQ.
My original Xenons does autolevel (including the DRL), I'd imagine this can very well be a case of defective headlight...

Differences?
As a follow up on the last poster: I know the euro Xenons are attractive because they eliminate the amber, but are there any other differences from U.S. Xenons?
Intensity of light output? Brightness of angel eyes? Lights that are on-off with various settings of the switch? |

well for the e90, the difference is that the US has amber reflector and the EURO has silver/clear reflector

PM me for details if you want euros (I'll just give you the source).
I don't see any difference in terms of light intensity... I was just going after the amber-less look. I also took this opportunity to install my PIAA LED rings though this will be replaced by something else soon

I realized this after seeing Flukey's broken clip. The pictures below are from his post. In the first you can see how the ball fits in the clip (his was broken off) The second picture shows the hole that the leveling motor fits in. The motor has 3 clips that fit in the 3 small square openings around the hole. To reconnect everything I held the lights back (they swing) and put the leveling motor in at an angle so it could slide the ball down into the clips. Once the ball was in, I could twist the motor into place. I'm not sure this is clear so PM me if you want to discuss further. Flukey, I hope you found your part!

I may be wrong, but I hope I am right.
The difference between US and European headlights is the color of parking light. In Europe front parking light must be white (the hallow rings are used for parking light). I think that the US E92 has two element bulb for turn signal and parking. I hope that by eliminating the amber parking light will do the trick. I am planning to bring Canadian E92 to Europe and changing the headlights is costly. One headlight over here is approximately $ 1,200. Please let me know if I am wrong. |
