New MagLite. Some observations.
So my 20+ year old MagLite finally crapped out. It was a good run. a battery exploded inside it and basically fused to the inside of the cylinder. So I replaced it with a new 3 D cell maglite with led bulb. Virtually the only thing that has changed in 20 years is the bulb. and wow what a difference I was outside with it last night and it reminded me of the "night sun" spot lights on police choppers. That is all.

Nothing beats a "quality" LED flash light. I don't personally have any surefire lights; I have 3 different LED Lenser flash lights. 1 small rechargeable, 1 pocket size uses 1 CR123 battery, 1 heavy duty 4xD battery. They all have a purpose and work extremely well. I haven't recharged my rechargeable in about 2 YEARS and it still has a charge to it as I was using it recently in my garage! |

Didn't even occur to me that Maglite was still around.
Somewhat of a taclite geek/freak myself. Ive aquired so many damn LED tactical lights over the years that they are in ever glovebox, room, nook and cranny in my house. Cant really justify my fascination but I will tell you that the Surefire Fury I picked up a few months ago will straight up blind you. 500 lumens, 6oz, and fits in your palm. Makes a great self defense tool in a pinch. Never leave home without it.

Dual, more practical. No need for 500 lumens all the time

SUREFIRE E2D LED Defender
Was thinking about picking one of these up for the wifey. And no, I will not post pics of the wifey. She can use it as a key chain it looks like. Right now all she has is the mini-baton i got her.

Aside from having huge battery appetites they are awesome.

If you want a badass quality flashlight for around $100, get the Skyray XY-600. The flooding capability and brightness is mind blowing.
My buddy brought his over during hurricane sandy when the power went out and it was able to easily light up my entire road. |

Is that what they are calling them now days?
Ditto - Much cheaper than Surefire and quality is pretty dang close IMO.

Same. People always praise surefire until I blind them with my cheaper, brighter Streamlight ProTac HL. Or my smaller ProTac 2L. Or my rail mounted TLR-2.
But when you absolutely have to burn the retinas out of someone's eyes the 4100 Lumen Wicked Lasers Torch is the way to go

Surefire's praise is well deserved. Surefire offers a diverse lineup of bright and extremely rugged tactical lights. Surefire has Streamlight soundly beat with respect to waterproofing, also.
