Problem with after market lights

Just had another m.o.t on the car and it's failed again on the head lights.
I bought some after market head lights and it's failed as they are not UK legal.

I said to the guy 'ok not a problem rebook it in ASAP I'll just buy some beam benders'.

He replied they might not work as the bulbs are xenon. I said ok I'll change the bulbs to standard bulbs. He said it still might not pass.

Has anyone else discoverd this problem.

A few months ago lighting was VOSA pet dislike. Probably rightly so judging by how often I get blinded. Are they oem xenon or halogen with H7 kit?

Just xenon H7 bulbs as far as I'm aware. It's annoying as its the only thing it's failed on. I've just back from Portugal and all UK cars that where over there just had duck tape over the lights.

The beam pattern is often all over the place with a kit as the element is not in the correct position. Even cheap bulbs have a big effect on beam pattern. Try some halogen bulbs and check it again. An element only has to be 1mm out to throw the beam

Are the bulbs road legal? If so show him the packet.

What aftermarket lights are they? Obviously the beam pattern is the reason for failure, not the fact they are aftermarket. The beam pattern should be able to be rectified. xenon bulbs alone are not really xenon, as in HId they are just gash looking bulbs with quite a crappy output. Best best is better halogen bulbs and sort the beam pattern, jobs a goodunl

I assume he has a xenon HID kit fitted which is not designed for the halogen reflectors. They are only about £35 including ballasts but results vary. Just a guess from the OP.
