Change Auto transmission gear knob?
I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the gear knob on an automatic?
And if you do, do you know a place where i could buy a replacement? |

Replace? Grab with 2 hands and pull up firmly, make sure you pull it straight and don't punch you in the face It might help if the car is in D.
Look up the part number you're looking for and shop the parts.

I'm getting my gearknob replaced soon. And the mechanic told me the easiest is to put it to N and then depress the button and pull up hard. U might want to open ur sunroof too!

no don't press the button...it might interfere, break the mechanism, just pull straight up, it goes off easy, believe me.

And then how would I put a new one on?
Just pop it in the same way? I have the brushed aluminum gear knob and I wanted the Walnut one |

If you have the car on when you pop the knob, you get a funky warning symbol

How true. First time I did this, I almost rearranged my face. Definitely be careful, but the advice is good. I left my car in park, opened the sunroof, sat on the center console, and pulled up. Putting it back is simple, just shove it back down.

Just replaced mine (2006 330i) with the OEM E92 auto shifter today. Like others said just pull hard. I don't know if it's my car only but the auto shifter is very easy to remove. I just sat in the driver seat and pulled with my right hand only and it came off with ease.. no bloody nose or black eyes or anything like that.
I liked it much better than the old styled shifter. It's bigger, more sturdier, and just feels more solid, and gives you better grip over the shifter. BTW part number is 25 16 7 570 652 (for the black/aluminum one). -hkj |

i would love to but thats probably even more complicated than putting in a 3.0 twin turbo from the 335 into a 328/330.

A fellow friend of mine did it. i did the mod too. Steam! The gearknob actually lights up as you move through the gears. When you go to sports mode, it becomes even brighter!!!
