BSW mid crossover question

In my hifi system I replaced my stock door mids/tweeters with the mids from the BSW kit and polk DB tweeters. The polk tweeters have an inline passive that I believe is 12db at ~4000HZ. The BSW is just wired directly to my JL amp, no external crossover that I have added. They are high passed about 180hz at the amp.

Does anyone know if the BSW mids have any kind of internal low pass crossover circuit?

I think there must be some kind of crossover built in to the wiring somewhere...I bought the BSW component set (which I am going to return) and I think it uses the same drivers as the drop in and just adds a crossover.

I am curious to know how you feel about your upgrade? upgrading the front mid/tweeter make a big difference?

Are you saying there is a separate outboard passive crossover with the component set?
The bsw mids and polk tweeters were a big improvement over stock, but I am now looking to improve upon them.

There's no room inside a speaker for crossovers. If they are used, they will be visibly integrated into the external wiring.

Afaik , the standard bsw mids dont have a xover as they are intended for factory amp power. They dd bring a new kit to market intended for aftermarket power which includes a dedcated xover.

Yep...I ordered one of those new component kits when I was trying to solve the distortion problem that turned out to be caused by my defective ipod.

I am going to return them but was thinking of exchanging for the drop-ins. The factory speakers sound pretty good powered by the JL XD600....I'm not sure if it is worth taking off the door panels to make the change...

Would it be worth it to re-open the doors and put some outboard passive crossovers on my mids/tweeters? Would the sound of the BSW mids improve if I lowpassed them around 4000? They are powered by a JL XD400.

The mids roll-off naturally, so no need to chop off the high end. Besides, you may make it worse than it is now. If you were to do it right, you would get 2-way passive crossovers and install them in the doors. That way, there would not be any frequency over- or underlap between the tweeters and mids.

So was all crossover work done by the factory amp in the hi-fi system? In that case are my mids and tweets both receiving full range now that they are powered by the XD600?

No. There is only one factory wire going to the doors. It carries the entire signal for the mid and tweeter together. The crossover is handled at the tweeter, by a capacitor to cut out the low frequencies. Like I said, the mid plays full range and the high frequencies roll off naturally.

THAT is what I am asking, will a set of passive outboard crossovers in the doors make a difference VS letting the mids roll off naturally?
