Sharing a COBB
Title says it all. Must say im a newbbie and interested in tuning my 335. Would it be possible to share a Cobb unit with its plug n play functionality. Looking at possibly splitting the costs with a friend. No track time, dd and just looking at a tune. Everything is stock.

Right - it only works on one vehicle at a time. If you plug in the AP to Car A, it gets "married" or locked to that vehicle. You can upload maps, change things, etc all day long until kingdom come. But if you plug it into Car B, it will not work. You must unmarry (divorce?) the AP from Car A - which also means going back to stock tune - before it can be used on Car B, at which point it is 100% functional in perpetuity for Car B.

What they said. It can be used on as many cars as you want, but only one at a time. I you are interested in cost savings look at a piggy back. They are available from the mid 400's

If OP can't afford to spend $700 on a tune right now he should hold off on modding for a little while. Not trying to be an ass or bust balls but being realistic. Also, i'm not trash talking any tunes based on price point.

We are not talking about just removing a protection here, we are talking about adding logic in the code to handle more than 1 car at a time.
Plus it's not like we are talking about a million user software here, it's a limited used hardware package - not a huge demand. |

My superchips programmer for the gm cars I've had works with multiple vehicles as long as you pay to unlock that function on the programmer. Just saying......

I am getting ready to order my Cobb, but am now confused here. Does the Cobb have to be plugged into the OBDII at all times to keep the tune on the ECU? I was under the impression that the Cobb just plugs into the OBDII to place the tune into the ECU and then unplug it. Is that not correct?

can tunes be shared between users?
Lets say my friend and I both have cobb and we have the same exact mods. I then spend a lot of time tuning my car to support my mods, can I then share my file with my friend? thank you

Yes, you'll create the maps in YOUR ATR. Email the map to you're buddy, who then opens the file in HIS ATR and then saves it. That way it will be "created" in his ATR tied to his serial #.
