ATR E85 Dyno results + stock intake versus DCI

All number uncorrected. Elevation of around 5200ft, temps in the low 70s in the building. Just installed NGK 5992s because I'd been getting some misses at high boost with the factory plugs even though they were only a few months old. Running 100% E85 and 16-17psi was too much for a 0.028" gap...had to gap down to 0.022" to make it go away. The standard correction factor for these conditions is about 20%, the shop normally uses 15% for turbo cars here.

No. Cobb, E85, and DCI for the top line only. But I am at high elevation and those are uncorrected numbers.

I thought it was interesting getting hard numbers for the DCI in this tune. About 8hp when full boost hits rising to about 15hp or so at high rpm. Should be good for 1-1.5mph in the quarter. Might only hit about 105mph even through the stock airbox. Even with a good clutch that might not quite get a 12.9 without a 2-step or WOTBox. Might need the DCI to get up into the 106s and make it happen. Should be easy with the FMIC though when that gets installed.

I duno man. I hit consistent 105mph traps in 95 degree weather (9,200 da) with just stg 1 aggressive 91/100 mix and stock air box. You are for sure making 30-40 more whp than me with that tune. Just get a new clutch and ur there.

I'm having AR pro tune my car for 50% e85 (Andrew says I should see an extra 50-60 whp over stg 1 aggressive. I'm going for 12's after that.

Hey, nice. I wish everyone reported uncorrected numbers.

Are the NGKs the same heat range as stock?

Yeah, I know you did, but I didn't get above 102. I don't know if that's because of needing to let off for a moment on each shift or if maybe I have a bit of a wastegate issue that's making my boost response poorer at low and high rpm. Or if an automatic is just that much better for drag racing in general on a 335xi.

At any rate I seem to need 25 or 30 more peak hp than you to get the same results.

They are the BR7A-8A plugs. I remember in my Mitsubishi days the 7s were the standard heat range and the 6s were the "cold" plugs. So I assume you would consider these the same heat range as stock.

Carl, that is great data. What DCI did you go with?

You know, I always found it funny that nobody on this platform ever talked about decreasing the plug gap or moving one range cooler. Maybe this will kick-start that trend. As usual, I am too chicken to be the first to try it

^^ plugs have been discussed in great detail... Most things have. I just didn't remember the details. Some experimented with 1 range colder also i believe.

Just an observation after looking at your logs... most of the HP difference is likely in boost target. The avg actual/req delta from 4k to 6k rpm is 0.45psi stock and -0.07 for DCI. So the difference would have been closer with better WG mapping. That's not to say DCI don't help, they sure do and very evident here. Drastic difference in WGDC by almost 5% avg DC over the same range.

Now try a 2.5" Mr. 5 intake... jk, that's my setup.

Well either way I'm impressed with your dyne results. Let me know if your going to bandi b4 the season is over. There are 3 test n tunes left.

I'd love to but my clutch said "no mas" last time. I just realized recently though that my stock CDV may have contributed to that. If I can get a modded CDV installed in the next week or two and if it seems to make a significant difference I might give it one more try before next spring.

thats the same gap i'm running on my e36 for similar boost levels. Works just fine, misses a bit at idle but never causes an issue.....almost sounds cammed at times.

Speaking of plugs, I was really surprised that brand new NGKs at 0.029" were stumbling worse than 6 month old stock ones. I never had to gap closer than that on my Mitsu, but my compression ratio was low on it. I thought maybe I was going to have to put the stock ones back in for the dyno and was quite happy that 0.022" was a huge improvement.

It was interesting pulling them back out to regap after about 30 minutes of running. Not only were they still clean, they looked brand new (keep in mind this was on straight E85). You literally couldn't tell they had been run except that they were hot.

pull them again in a few weeks to see if they have opened at all. Curious.
