Technic and MS-8ers:

I have some issues with my current install that may be simply be the result of adding more power and thus making previously existing issues more apparent.

I am wondering if the relay as part of the MS-8 may be causal or contributing to the problems...I am thinking it may have to do with some portion of the following issues:
  • Power on Pops
  • Audible (analog) noise floor
  • Clicking sound from behind OEM HU (new problem)
  • sporadic issues triggering various OBC errors (seems to correlate with the item immediately above).
  • MS-8 rebooting in conjunction with item 3 and 4 above

I am considering removing the relay from the MS-8 remote wire (and running OEM remote signal directly to MS-8 input). I would like recommendations on whether or not this is advisable as well as potential effects.

If there is no issue (from previous comments by VP-Electricity) the relay may be redundant in an MS-8 system...

Technic...can you advise me as to the wiring before and after?

Thank you.

Remove relay and place a 1A fuse on OEM remote out signal. Report back...

Taibnal,
I have made a harness which is without relay and used it with ms-8.
I have an issue of audible popping sound when HU / car is turned on.
I was praising Technic's harness on other thread as I thought it would also help to avoid popping sound.
Waiting to see results of your experiment.

What configuration are you in? Stereo or HiFi?

The popping, as far as I can tell, is definitely not related to the harness, and probably not the relay either. And yes, the pin 13 signal from the back of the HU has more than enough juice to turn on the ms-8.

Andy W. already explained the reason for the popping over at DIYMA, although it may have been in connection with high-level amp outputs, not sure. It had to do with a voltage differential between the speaker-level outputs, and the ground, IIRC, but I'm no genius when it comes to electrical things...

You can eliminate the turn-on signal as the source for the popping by bridging between the terminals between the 12V+ and remote. If you do that, it will still pop. I tried it already.

Yes, Andy's explanation related to the voltage transients specifically when using speaker level from the HU....it could also be the case that we are somewhere in between as the HU is capable of 5v AC-RMS while ms-8 accepts 2.8

I any case I do think my relay is on the fritz

Only way to get rid of it is to get a DA2, or get rid of the ms-8.

In my experience with 15+ MS-8 installs, any pop issue is at turn off and not at turn on. That is regardless of high or low inputs to the MS-8.

It is Hi-fi coded HU ---> MS-8 ---> Amp.
Here is the detail of the system.

FWIW i only have turn on pop. Nothing at turn off. The pop reduces significantly if i reduce the OEM base level on iDrive before starting the engine. There is also zero turn on pop when i start the car quick enough, i.e just before the ms-8 starts up.
