Brake Pads & Discs - E92 335D 2006

Hi guys,

My car says I need to replace the brake pads, but the brake discs all round still have a few thousand miles left on them….
Is it worth getting the whole lot (discs, pads and sensors) from ECP (£300 after 31% discount) or just get the pads?

My MOT which took place passed but said the pads all round were near to its end of life, whilst the discs will go on for a further 6 months ish.

I was thinking of getting the whole lot replaced and save on labour later down the line.. albeit a few bobs.

I plan on keeping the car so wonder what is best to do in this situation?

Cheers

If the disks are only going to last 6 months and the car is a keeper then I would do it all at once, as you say it will save a few pounds on labour at a later date and the new disks will be kinder to the new pads.

Thanks Bud! Pagid or Mintex in your opinion? Only for road use and want OEM quality with least noise / dust lol.

pagid.. they are OEM spec (as are textar).

Mintex are messy, and in my experience can also be noisy!

Just my 2p
I would not take the idrive miles to go to its word. When my rear pads were down to 2k miles I looked at the pads and they still had 3mm pad material left - I think the sensor is a rough guest'imate

But I presume your MOT guy has inspected them and as said they wont last long.

Discs - Not everyone will agree with me but I always like to think you can get 2 pad cycles out of 1 disc unless something bad has happened and you have deep grooves/lip on the disc.

I know on my last service the pads and discs were changed so I inspected the discs visually and there was hardly any lip around the edge so I just decided to replace the pads. But come next time round both pads and disc will be replaced. If the disc has a deep lip then I would consider replacing. Again some would say use a measuring device for the thickness but I dont have access to such tool so rely on common sense lol

However if you can get the parts at discounted price then why not go the whole hog and change all especially if you are planning to keep the car for a while then at least it wont need doing again for a while. One thing I have noticed the front discs on a 35D are not cheap !!!

i went with Textar rear pads as I read they are/were oem and so far they have been ok no complaints - my setup for changing the fronts will be pagid pads and discs

Just had mine done last week, I went with pagid as per advice here. The originals when taken off were textar - no issues with the new brakes since fitting.
