What no torch!

Booked my 335i in for it's first service (16,500 miles) and happened to mention that I've noticed that I don't have a torch in the front glove compartment. Was told by dealer that this was discontinued for a short while, but due to customer feedback has been re-introduced (Hence the new car in the showroom had a torch installed). Are they telling me porkies? Was mine nicked when it was PDI'd? Did BMW really stop supplying torches?

Incidentally, the torch costs approx £10! and they didn't even offer me a free one!!!

When I filled-up the dealer stamps on my VW service book, VAG charged me £17+VAT for a replacement. :mad: Now that was shocking

Surely they could replace the torch as a good will gesture, mean buggers

My colleague got his 330SE dropped off to him by ssome old chap who didn't know anything about BMWs so PDI and customer handover was none existent.

The torch was missing on his too - he kicked up a fuss through the lease company and got a torch.

I was told they were discontinued too. I always thought it was suspicious though that the slot was still available and looking rather bare.

They were discontinued on the last of the E46's and re-introduced on the March 2005 onwards E90/E91.

It may throw out less light than my PDA, but it better be there when I pick up the new motor or there will be fuss

Our last e46 (54 plate) didn't have a torch when we picked it up. I had a word with the dealer and they told me it had been discontinued but they sent me one, it wasn't new but pretty good.

The 335d (March 2007) came with one so no problem.

Got a tourch in my 06 June E90.

Just kick up a fuss and say it was there, other than that if out in a friends pinch theirs (only kiddin).

Or you could take a test drive from the dealer and with a slight of hand take theirs, but I wouldnt suggest this method, cough cough :-)

Hmm you could do something similar - go to the stealers and find cars of the same age as yours and see if they have a torch fitted.

If they have then get the sales guy or dealer principle to explain how they are mysteriously discontinued on your car but not on the ones on the forecourt.

If the electrical two hole socket is there, then there should definitely be a torch. If there is a blanking plate where the torch should plug in then I would not be so sure.
On a previous euro import car I had, there was a blanking plate where the torch should go, so I had to buy both the socket and torch to make the UK spec complete.

Sounds like they're BS'ing you. I didn't have one on my 54 plate E46, but have one on my June 06 E90, and that's a lowly ES spec car.

My E93 Feb build March delivery has a torch fitted. As previous posts if socket exists torch should be there.
