HU Removal?
This isn't such a stupid thread as it might sound...
There are DOZENS of DIY threads covering removal of a non-iDrive headunit, but I can't for life of me find one for an iDrive car. If there is one, would someone please point me in the right direction? If not, I'll happily do a DIY if someone will give me some instructions. 1. Heated seat switch panel at the bottom. Does it just pull out? 2. HU itself - how many screws? Top or bottom? 3. Do I need to remove the AC control panel above the HU? If so, how? Thanks in advance, all

Thanks guys
After all that, I realised I don't need to. I've just bought a Cleansweep so I'll get the remote turn on and speaker signals from that. My original plan was to buy a Parrot SOT lead and butcher it to get the speaker outputs and switched 12V without damaging the car's wiring at all. What I'll do instead is just fit bullet connectors to the wires that I cut so it can be returned to standard quite easily.

Katie,
Because the standard stereo only comes with badly placed, cheap, speakers, the output from the HU looks like the graph in this post in order to compensate: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=20 What we want when upgrading is as close to a flat response as possible, firstly because aftermarket speakers can reproduce the full range unlike the factory rubbish, and secondly because amplified crap is just louder crap The Cleansweep takes the signals from the HU and processes them, and outputs as close to a flat response at is possible, which we can then use to supply an amplifier.

FWIW, I know there's a lot of hate for the standard stereos but it's still easily the best OEM setup I've had in a car.
I'm only upgrading because the modding bug is hard to shift

Best I've had was in my old 2006 E Class with full Command system. The sound quality was absolutely stunning. The BMW one with I drive is just ok at best, all in my opinion.
I considered upgrading to Alpine before I sold the car, but read that alot suffer amp problems. I've always had a penchant for infinity component speakers, they sound stunning. |
