You could try the pink screen wash from halfords that they are selling. Its fragranced so everytime your spray you get a nice smell in the cabin. It also won't freeze upto -8c iirc.

jono330i - Have you got any screen wash in it??

Obviously not enough or any. Either neat ready-mix or at least 1/3 neat concentrate to water is needed.

The Methanol in screen wash will kill bacteria and stop it smelling, and screen washes are fragranced to some extent.

Smell could indicate sludge and a potential impending blockage. Try and keep it filled up so there is less air in there for the bacteria to breed, and like has been said, put a high concentration in there.

I've always used the double concentrate stuff from halfords, smells quite nice too. Just stick it in neat, you will need to for winter. Then after winter if you need a top up just stick som water in providing there is some washer fluid still left.

Might help with washer jets freezing and snapping off.

Soon after I bought my car the first time I cleaned the windscreen I got this foul egg smelling smell come through the vents - I can only presume the car had been sitting for a while and water got stagnent.

One option was to remove the wheel/arch/bottle but I just did not have the time. Then I read someone reccomending using a calgon tablet. I crushed the tablet up into small pieces and mixed it with hot water. I poured it in left it for 30 mintues and drained - smell was gone

Tip never mix different brands of screenwash, stick to one type

Had the same with my car. Simply squirt all the water out and fill it with a neat solution, get some running through the lines to clear them up too. Was fine after that.

I would agree, before you start removing wheel / arch liners and stripping the tank out, just run it through with at least 50% mix of decent screen wash, keep it topped at 50%.

If you buy the 5 litre unmixed stuff, buy 2 or 3 bottles of it, then put half the first one into an empty 5L bottle (so you have 2 containers half full of neat wash) then top them both up with water.....and so on.

Then you'll always have 50% mix ready in the garage without having to guess by mixing it in the washer tank.

Pre-mixed washer stuff is a rip off, its more than neat to buy and is half water!!

I always use 100% (neat) cleaner. Never freezes (especially the pop-out headlight washers) and the BMW stuff smells nice too.

100% neat - Scandinavian Style!

I've never had 50% freeze in the pipes/nozzles, but it does freeze first thing on the cold screen even at 50%.

Could be time to go 100%..

I suppose it depends on the amount of driving you do, especially on motorways on winter mornings with low sun. You can get through gallons of the stuff which would work out expensive. For my in-town commute each day 100% works for me.

Agree, my 3er isn't a DD anymore, so its weekends only, family trips etc (no point in going for a sunday blast in the winter),

So 100% mix would be OK costwise.

If you've got space and a few cars, then why not go bulk-buy?

Xmas offer - 205 litres for £99!!

Or 1000 litres for £399!

http://www.uk-screen-wash.co.uk/

You could sell it to the neighbours!!
