Anything new for N55s lately?
Been busy with work and school and haven't been on the boards as often. It seems as if in the past couple of months no manufacturers have geared anything towards the n55 or lci models. What's the latest mods being produced nowadays?

Besides all the FBO materials (no COBB tune still), the "big" thing on the horizon for the N55 is if Vargas Turbos can finally offer you guys a turbo upgrade option. He's primarily focusing on the N54 right now, but he's been looking for an N55 to take measurements & see what can fit.

There isn't even a viable downpipe fix for these cars yet. I am starting to think that with the F3x N55s being completely different in terms of engine management, the few e9X N55s will become the redheaded stepchild in the BMW tuner world. I hope I'm wrong but development seems to be taking waaaay longer than it should for some relatively simple parts.

The BMS CAN Tool hooked into the ODBII port acts as a code clearer if you don't want to run a tune.
Edit @OP - nothing new as others said.

I have the OEM perf. power kit and would like the option of a downpipe without all the stored codes and malfunction lights. I know I am in the minority but that is the position I am in I like the drivability of the PPK and it is enough for now. Earlier spooling would be nice though.
Not to mention that even with a tune, the car is logging shadow codes that the dealers can see if they want to. I think a DP fix would actually prevent the cr from ever logging a cat efficiency code, but maybe not. |

I don't have emissions testing where I live but that is obviously a huge issue for most owners. Who wants to remove a downpipe yearly? Or rely on trying to slip the tech a $50 to pass you...

Yea, DPs just aren't worth it for me. My Dinan stage 3 gives me plenty of what I need, while still being able to make it with inspection.

There is a BMW garage here who does a bit of tuning aswell. They cut open the original dp's, empty them, and fill up with 200 cell cat. Afterwarts they flash your car (with some extra hp )so you can use it and have no CEL.
For yearly inspection of CO2, you can go to them to check This is an idea a followed untill i saw the price of it all... 4k isn't enough...

Anyone know if the catted aftermarket downpipes on the market will trigger the same cat efficiency codes? Not sure if I have ever read a review of one...

Re: DP for N55 catted Depends on the car... With the new BMW firmware there is no way to guarantee no way to throw a CEL. Sometimes the car sees the flow between the o2's as to much causing the CEL to turn on. Burger should have a DP fix available soon though! That is kind of what I figured would probably happen. Drop almost $1000 on a catted DP and get a CEL anyway. The emissions systems are so sensitive in these cars. I guess the only viable solution for me is to get a tune that deletes the warning light and pray that my county doesn't change the inspection laws. Of course, there is another option: being content with the car as it is. I think I will try that.

You can't pass the OBD portion of an emissions test with a tune!? Any tune? I didn't know that. I think what you are saying is that any tune that eliminates the CEL for cats will not pass emissions. Are you telling me that all these owners in California have to reflash to stock every time they need to pass smog? Screw that. I know the Dinan tune doesn't cause issues but then again it probably doesn't delete cat readiness codes either. I guess the Performance Power Kit is looking better and better...

That is the thing, I don't even have emissions testing here. I just want a 100% solution that causes no CELs, no shadow codes, no fuel smell, no warranty problems, no nothing. I guess I have found that with the OEM PPK. Shame that the power numbers are so conservative. I guess Dinan is the next step up but $2000 is quite salty for an extra 30hp.
