BORLA Installed

So after waiting and waiting for the other members who installed and said they would post sound clips but havn't, well I went ahead and bought it and installed mine. Now for those of you who want a sound clip, don't bother. This exhaust sounds almost the same as stock. On a scale of 1 (being stock)- 10 (eisenmen race), the Borla is a 2. Its so quiet, Im sitting here like wow, wtf? Performance wise, man it really picked up th HP. No dyno yet, but I will get a dyno soon, I can definately feel the chip putting the power down smoother and it pulls harder in ever gear. As for the sound, I'm not sure what Im going to do. I wanted a quiet exhaust that would not drone while crusing, but this is almost like stock

Im hoping in a few hundred miles it will get slightly louder.

Maybe if you got the Riss catless Downpipes also, it would make them louder

I dont understand why BMW didnt make a exhaust system similar to the Borla as stock. Its about the same loudness, noise wise but the Borla pulls so much harder.

because as it is, the 335 and E46 are even, give the 335 a better exhaust, and they would lose m3 sales.

Im really on the fence with this exhaust. I love the fact that it is quiet, but I cant justify spending money on exhaust when the car is fast enough with PROcede.

Thats my point though. Of course I love speed, but this is my daily driver. I can only go so fast in traffic to and from work. I just cant justify spending another 1g+ on a mod that isnt going to do much for me. Especially since Ill just be pulling it off in 3 yrs when the lease is over.

They did, just disconnect the solenoid controlling the right side exhaust and it will be open all the time; the exhaust sounds much nicer and louder at rpm<3000, just a little louder and it's reversible!

The only problems with that are that it stores "exhaust valve" error codes in the ECU until the tech clears them, and for sedan owners, its really not that much louder. I could barely tell a difference when I did it to mine. I think a lot of people get a placebo effect in they hear what they want to hear from it. It definitely doesnt give you any more power, quicker throttle response, or louder turbos.

I thought I remember seeing one of the Vendors was thinking about creating a mid-pipe for the Borla system. I would think that adding that would up the sound somewhat.

Personally I'm on the fence of what exhaust I want to get at this point.. Hopefully within the next month or so I'll figure out which one I want to get.

See thats the thing, I LOVE my exhaust quiet now. Im tired of having exhaust on a daily driver. Its nice to be able to hold a conversation, listen to music at a lower level, and not have people look at me when I take off. When I want that, I take out my M3 or bike. Guess Im getting old.

To the OP, what was the charge for install of the Borla exhaust?

Completely understandable actually. That's the main reason I'm looking into the Borla myself. I think my days of the 3" Turbo Back exhaust are done (Years ago when I had a Eclipse GSX, that thing was loud, didn't help that my HKS wastegate vented directly to atmosphere).

If you go the Borla route shortly, let me know what you think of it.

Is 37 old for ya,, cause thats how I feel.

Like what you said about the procede,, its fast enough ,,, why spend more money......

I feel the same , after dumping $ after $$$ after $$$$$ on the evo, I still can only go so fast.

This is one thing Im not going to do with the 335i. Except the ecu. I hope.... LOLOL

Borla quiet? What's the world coming to??? I had a Borla cat back system on my last car, a 2005 Mustang GT. When I drove through my neighborhood people ran for cover, babies cried and women screamed! In other words: Loud As Shit! I'm shocked to hear quiet and borla in the same paragraph.

That said, I never really got used to the noise and drone in the GT and grew to hate it except when I was feeling rowdy. I showed no gains on the dyno with that system. I'd be interested to see if there is any power to be gained with the 335.

That's the thing...you had a GT. Any exhaust on that car would be loud.

The Borla I had on my V6 Accord Coupe was also quiet. I couldn't set off alarms if I parked next to it and rev my car to death.

Yeah its so quiet it sounds stock. The exhaust tip look almost stock too. No one believed me when I tell them I have an exhaust installed. Not sure its a good thing or bad thing at the moment. But I do enjoy the power....it smoothed out my chip a lot. I spanked an smg m3 without an exhaust, now I'm gonna go find those evos that was spanking me earlier

My custom exhaust sounded almost stock too, but after i put on catless downpipes i had to change out the mufflers to Borla XR-1's... I had autospeed mufflers from my V-8 S4 on the 335. They sounded like crap after the downpipes. Now its loud though, i have a soundclip up...
