Need Dealer Advice On 60k Mile Service
Hi all, Happy Veterans Day.
I just dropped my E90 off for the 60k mile maintenance. I was under the impression that this was a larger service that included spark plugs, oil change-if needed, wipers, vehicle check, diff fluid change. I've looked in the maintenance sub section here, but can't get a definitive answer on what it exactly done. I also do not have my manuals and the stuff on BMW NA is no help. My SA said that all gets done at the next oil change that im due for in under 5k miles. I also dropped the car off for the latest software updates, since it has never been done since it was at the factory. Any help would be appreciated!

Curious if they update your software without a related "problem".
The newer BMW's use a combination of condition based service intervals and lifetime fluid in trans and diff. Your car should tell the dealer what it needs. Most people around here aren't content with the CBS intervals and do more oil changes and other fluid changes.

Trans fluid might be lifetime (Im 6MT), but diff is not. I understand the CBS system, but I was under the impression plugs are at 30 & 60k.

After the 1200 mile...then it's lifetime. I'm not sure what they put in there for the first 1200 miles but it might be different than the long term fluid.
For the record...I don't buy this whole lifetime fluid thing and I'm not defending it.

37K on the plugs.....it is not in the CBS, that's why they didn't do it. You need to tell them what is due...... the manual, etc. for the car is here in the forum in the manuals section. Print out the page and bring it to the dealer to show them what is needed. It clearly states "not found in CBS."

Misinformation in this thread. The transmission fluid for the 6MT is not lifetime fluid, it is changed with the differential fluid. The only lifetime fluid is the DCT transmission fluid.

I just did my own 60k service:
Oil change Spark plugs Air filter Cabin filter Diff fluid 6MT fluid (my decision) Total cost was about $550 (MT fluid alone was $160) and took half a Saturday. I will say the shifts are a bit cleaner/crisper with the MT fluid change.

Here are service interval as per BMW service manual:
spark plugs every 37,000 miles, oil changes determined by CBS (oil to be changed AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR), differential fluid and manual tranny fluid every third engine oil service, brake fluid change every two years or CBS whichever comes first. Wiper should be replaced when needed. As you are out of warranty, you need to go over everything you want the dealer to do. Otherwise they may very well do things you don't need (want) or don't do things you do. May I suggest that you look for an independent tech to do out of warranty work. They are generally more responsive to your needs and are most always less expensive. |

Im not out of warranty. It is a CPO vehicle, plus I have the maintence extension program. The only thing im paying for is the software update.
I know about independent shops. I used to work at Motorwerks Group in Michigan. We did all the high end euro cars.
