Tires for around Chicago
I bought a 2009 335i (xdrive) earlier this year and I need tires for it. Are the OEM Continentals decent enough to get around in Chicago winters? My commute is 30 miles each way between Orland Park and South Holland. What i am thinking is to buy some all seasons for fall / winter / spring and then I was going to buy new wheels and tires for summer. Any advice would be appreciated.
btw, my name is Dan and I am new to the forums. I am on a couple of other boards pretty consistently and look forward to becoming part of this community. |

Snow tires for winter and summer tires on the new rims for the rest of the year.
Not sure if you are new to the area, but if you are, you'll find out quickly that Chicago has the most fucked up weather of any area. I'll be putting my winters on within the next couple weeks most likely and won't take them off until late Feb to early March. With this spread, it works out to about 50/50 usage between winter and summer tires. I've never driven in the winter in all season, but I do know snow tires are amazing. And welcome to the forum. Post up in here, assuming you are not easily offended and okay with strangers talking about your junk: ![]()

Everyone will recommend snow tires, but AWD will help you a bit.
Welcome to the forum. I'm in Orland quite so hopefully we'll run into each other. |

on my audi i run michelin pilot sport all seasons, got about 60k miles on them and there is still plenty of tread, they are going to dry rot before they go bald, its also a beast in the snow. I'd get a set of those or conti dws for a little less money and use them year round.
