Rest Button
So today is the first cold day around here and the rest button might be useful. When i tried it it didnt seem to turn on! The few times before i experimented with it, it would sometimes go on. What are the "restrictions" on when the rest button will work and not work? Besides being 77 degrees outside, does anything else need to be at a certain setting for it to work? Thanks!

The temperature has to be below a certain level. The ignition must be off and not in the on position. I am not quite sure about this but there might be a posibility that you have to have the keys out of the slot before it works. I'll confirm next time. Also, if you stopped your car for 1 hour for example and return to the car and it still have some residual heat, you can switch the car to the 'on' position and then press the "REST" button. It will be 'reactivated' this way.

It is on your climate control on the passenger side. This button is use the engine heat to heat the interior of your car. For example if you pick up someone at the air port or school and waiting in your car, you can use 'REST' with engine off and key fob in the slot. I'm not sure how car with comfort access work. |

noflash: i beg to differ. on a cold day it is quite a nifty feature. i seem to remember that it is on for 15 minutes. I think that's what the manual says.

I think idling for 1 min = 3km driving or something like that.

Idleling the car not good for the environment...not that I am a tree hugger but since the engine is warm it can produce heat w/o wasting extra energy....great for cold places like canada....good thinking by bmw i think.... |

OMG
That is completely nitpicky. That is like arguing to recycle a platic toothpick. If you really felt that stringly about it, you drive an electric car or at least commute -- so don't come in here and say idling the car for 15 minutes on a cold day is bad for the environment. Jesus. And for the record, I am an "Environmentalist", not some oil tycoon -- ok? |

What's wrong with it running the fan if you come back with the car warm and you don't have to leave your key in the car? |
