Day 3 in the ///M less house.

Well after picking the M3 up late Fri night, something didn`t feel quite right. I thought the shuddering was to be expected from a `vert at first but the more I thought about it and with a little nidge from Mystic I decided to take it into a dealer Mon morning. Technician come out, has a quick chat about the car then jumps in the passenger seat for a road test. About 500 yds down the road, he says "thats enough, the front brake discs are shot and the diff doesn`t sound right"

A few hours later I get a phonecall to say they`ve replaced the front brake discs under warranty but the back wheel is badly buckled and the tech doesn`t want to look closer at the diff untill the wheel is rectified incase the buckle is putting more stress on the diff (kinda make sense I guess)

The problem being the supplying dealer doesn`t beleive the dealership where it is now, so is insisting that someone from their own group looks at it (all be it a Jaguar tech.) This apparently will be happening tomorrow, so then he can ring the clowns in Hull to say "yep its buckled" and then they can send a used wheel up (originals are on a 3 week back order and I`ve told them I don`t want one brand new wheel and three older ones)

I guess by the time all this happens, I might have a round wheel by Mon and then they can look at the diff. So by next weekend I might have a car I can use (just in time for me to go on holliday Mon  )

What I can`t understand is that this car has just been through an inspection II service and a new MOT, how on earth did they miss a buckled wheel and warped front discs. I`ve only driven the car home Fri (all motorway at 80 mph) and about 60 miles on the Saturday and definately, definately haven`t hit any potholes or anything.

The dealer the car is at has no courtesy cars available (understandable as I just turned up at 8.30 Mon morning) The assistance people won`t provide a car as I didn`t actually break down and the dealer in Hull wont pay for a hire car.
BMW UK say that the dealer is doing everything they can to resolve the problem quickly but lets be honest, all they had to do was courier a wheel up on Mon and tell the dealer to send the old one down for them to look at, simple as that. Problem solved, a happy customer and just a £50 bill for the courier.

So a word of warning to anyone buying an AUC car don`t automatically assume everthing will be alrigt, it might be in the end but it`ll give you a fucker of a headache along the way.

whats AUC car?

did you buy from a dealer?

someone maybe lost the backend and twatted a kerb?
risk is it may have cut short the life expectancy of the diff now even if it seems alright after a new wheel is on

sorry about all your bad luck and hope its sorted soon

AUC is an approved used car which only the main dealers sell.

I`m not bothered if it needs a new diff at all as its covered under warranty and the diffs are readily available. The ball ache for me is nothing can move forward `till this wheel is sorted. GGRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !

Sorry to hear your woes.

Just goes to prove that the AUC 'checks' that the stealers are allegedly supposed to do, don't always happen. Afterall if you've noticed it so recently after purchase, they couldn't have bothered Think a stern letter to the stealer principal and BMW is required

Makes me paranoid to think what'll happen to mine

I think the convienient thing here is, if a problem is picked up before the customer buys a car thats out of manufacturers warranty the dealer has to pay to put it right. If a problem is found after someone buys the car, the AUC warranty then comes into it and good old BMW UK pay for it (and of course pass the cost on to us somewhere along the line. )

I went to test drive a 330i zsp at Frank Z in Dayton OH, and it was a certified pre-owned, went through all the inspections, and it wouldnt even start. the battery was shot, and barely had enough juice to open the driver door, couldnt even open the other doors. Talk about silly.

They want someone from their dealer group to look at it as they don`t beleive the other main dealer.

Knowing the trouble I've had with my wife's X-Type (and Jaguar Tech's) I know who's judgement I'd rather trust

Maybe I should take the Mondeo along, they`d prob know more about that.

Or maybe I should take him for a road test in the ///M

The thought of some young idiot who knows nothing about BMW`s, yet alone an M car collecting it and ragging it through Edinburgh terrifies me. An M3 is a car you need to respect a little.

sorry about the bad news

why is it someone is always out to make that extra few quid on a deal ,can any body put there hand on there heart and say they would be any different if they was on a peformance related pay structure where they are on some profit related pay scheme .could this be a genuine oversight by the supplying dealer ? i very much doubt it .so the question is who is to blame service technician ?.or the used car sales director/manager i think the buck stops with the principal .i wouldnt mind betting the salesman didnt have a clue as to the faults why would he know he just wants a quick no fuss sale . stealers im afraid are all the same STEALERS let us know how you get on but if you really like your M i guess you should work it out with them how long is the used car warrenty ? and is there a limit on claim amount etc

The AUC warranty is 12 mths unlimited mileage and is the same as a new car warranty, no excess, no limit, european breakdown cover, hire car etc, etc. On an M3 I beleive its now £1200 (with a 250 excess) a year to renew after the first 12mths upto 60000 miles on the car or £1800 (with a 250 excess) a year over 60000 miles.

Under the AUC terms you can actually return the car within a short period (I think 2 weeks from memory) if you are not happy with it.

I'd remind your dealer of this and the fact that it is his fault that the car was sold in an unroadworthy state, that a buckled wheel is potentially dangerous and that you should not be left without transport because of his mistake.

Dealers can hire cars ... or you can hire a car and ask him to pay.

Good luck Mike. It's a disgrace that they should have let a car go with that much wrong with it, clearly not fit for purpose. Give 'em hell!

That explains someone from their group going along but not a jaguar engineer! Is it a BMW dealership? I assume so as AUC.

The dealership (BMW) I bought the car from is about 250 miles away. The nearest "prestiege" dealer the dealer group has is a Jaguar dealer (5 mins away) Been to the Jag place today and they seem really helpful, have confirmed the BMW dealers diagnosis, so now its down to Stratstone Hull to send a wheel up. Hopefully that will stop the slight vibration I get between 20-30 mph, if not its in for a new diff while I`m in Mexico and I`ll run it in on my `ring trip 2 days after I get back.
