Electronics engineers? LED boost gauge
its a long shot but does anyone on the board have the schooling to create something similar to whats shown here http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec42.shtml
it seems like it would be something very easy for someone who actually gone to school for it, looks like that sensor puts out varying volts depending on pressure which somehow gets translated to lighting up leds if i had the parts in front of me i could probable put it together because i know my way around a soldering iron, but i have no idea how it actually works it seems like it would be great though to use calibrated for 7-17 psi w/ say amber for 7-12 psi green for 13&14 and bright red for 16+17 |

but more importantly, i want to ask someone with more knowledge if you can calibrate it to a 10psi range (he has it @ a 20psi range 2 psi per LED which would be useless for us IMO) and it would work w/ 1 psi per led (or even a 5 psi range and .5 psi per led O_o) seems like it would though, but im no electrical engineer nah if you look you'll see that you can have it so only one led lights up at a time (which is what i would use for sure) |

It wouldnt be hard to set it up to do .5 psi per LED but it would be a huge pain to order and put together all those pieces.

Here is a place to get cheap circuit boards made fast. http://www.expresspcb.com/ I have used them for small boards at work for test fixtures. The software is free to download and you send your order over the internet and can have your circuit boards in as little as 2 days for double sided boards.

Something like this is really simple in concept; you can get LED bargraph drivers dime-a-dozen (unless you get one from the rat shack, in which case they're a couple of bucks). Usually you can pin them for "moving bar" or "moving dot" (this application calls for the latter I think) and you just use one to display the voltage coming off of your pressure sensor. I'd bet you can find an appropriate signal in the ECU wiring harness so you don't need to change any plumbing. The trick with this route is that you need a temporary mechanical pressure gauge to calibrate your display; if you're using your own sensor you can get "close enough" from the spec sheet.

I think its a neat idea in theory, but in execution will give you very limited data. You want exacting readings when it comes to boost. Something like this would be good for a shift light or air/fuel meter. However, I like my digital gauge showing me to the .1 accuracy. I know if something is funky with lines or pressure or whatever if I see a drop in what Im normally accustomed to. You cant tell if anything is wrong on that LED setup if you have 2psi per light. Even doubling the lights and having 1psi for each, thats still not accurate enough. Sorry.
