That's because it is trying to look like a sports car. Merc has always had an "old rich person's car" feel and reputation to it. Now merc wants the younger demographic which has been more the realm of BMW 3 series. If merc succeeds in getting more young people into their sportier and cheaper C class then down the track these same people may more easily progress to the E or S class.
As for the car, I think it looks great except for the steering wheel. Can't wait to see the M3 challenging C65 AMG. It should be awesome.

I've only seen the new C class on posters and TV adds but I'd love to take one for a drive. It sure looks the business. No doubt that this will slow down 3 series sales now so dealers should be keener to negotiate especially if you tell them you are considering the new "C".

I actually prefer the C class merc on looks compared to the 3er sedan- I really hate the 3er sedan rear lights one of the few bangle design mistakes in my opinion (Also the rear decks of the 6er and 7er- really ugly, like they're stuck on). But that's just personal preference.

In my opinion, BMWs driven so much better than Mercedes and I would never go back to a Mercedes.

I'm told the entry level C200 puts out around 135kw which makes a mockary of BMW's pathetic half engined 320i or d (I can say that cause I got one!!!!). If there is anything I regret on mine it would be the lack of engine power. I went into the local Alfa dealer today and had a good look at the Brerra and I'm going to go back on monday for a drive. Might have a good look at the C200 as well and advise my thoughts.

I haven't seen one up close in the flesh, but from the piccies, I don't like the gap between the top of the grille and the leading edge of the bonnet - looks like a Dodge to me --- check it out and see for yourself !
Also, the interior looks cheaper than the 3, but it may be a different story when viewing it in person, so I reserve my judgement on that one, but the pictures I have seen do not look promising. Not adventurous enough for me, a bit of a German Camry, and I thought that the Passat had that crown, but obviously it has well and truly been passed over... ... oh and did I say I didn't like it??

yeh i saw one a while back in the city... looks weird, like really angular, but not in a good way, kinda like a whole lot of blocks jammed together that don't really fit?
