I'm thinking about starting a garage project over the winter. It is car related because that's where I park my 335!

At the momemt, it's bare bone. Typical builder finish but insulation and drywall is up. Would like to make it a nice finish, painted ceiling, walls and personalize to add the Beamer touch. From a google search, I've seen some ideas but don't want to spend $5k

Curious to know if anyone out there has added their personal touch and can share some nice clean affordable garage ideas. Photos of your garage, cabinets, shelves, cool features or just some wall art are more than welcome.

my opinion for what it's worth, I installed a lot of shelves and use it for a bit of storage.

in the corner i have a corner desk (made it myself) and toolboxes. I bought a bookshelf to store oil, windshield washer, coolant etc. maybe start with something like that? I recently put a TV in there too.

ps. should mention this is my parents house but my dad appreciates that I've basically renovated his entire house lol

Create some solid shelving for any items that need to be easily accessed but stored at the same time.

A work desk in the far corner is also a good idea to store tools and have a flat surface to work if needed.

I also though about creating a type of a tall closet with some seperations to help store my winters for a neat storage and easy access.

You can also build your own storage type closet, shelving and unit and then grab sliding doors from ikea.

Ill be doing this soon too.

The last place I lived, I wanted to do the same ...
anyways went to Craigslist and they have tonnes of Kitchen cabinets and countertop in the free section.
Picked up a whole L shaped thing and put it in the corner. and just put some paint on the doors and drawers.

looks neat and lots of storage and counter space at the same time!!

Ideally: mount some Ikea cabinets along the back wall and have 2 floor standing shelving units; paint the walls and seal/paint the concrete floor.

Reality: bought some shelves, screwed a 2x6 against the back wall for tools.

I put in 2 shelves along the entire walls, along with the mezzanine.
Mezzanine is where I store all the big things I need less often (ie: tires).
High shelves for things I can see but don't need all the time, lower shelves for things more often used.
I installed a workbench with a shelf above it with under-cabinet lighting.
On top of my workbench is my old receiver with aux input and an antenna for radio, with 2 old (but amazing and loud) 12" cerwin vega speakers wired up to the very top shelves out of reach.
Also, a lot of hooks along the bottoms of the shelves to hang things, and below the workbench an area for the blue box, green bin, and garbage.
To do: paint (last week I patched up all the holes).

Just about every single idea for the garage has been covered at one point in time.
I painted the ceilings and top 2/3'rds of my garage in high-gloss-white. The slick surface is super resilient to dust. Bottom 1/3rd is grey.

I'd love to epoxy the floors, but it's slippy, and not friendly to welding slag.. Daisy chain a few fluorescent lights as well.

I'm considering epoxy floors but heard it starts to peel with hot tires.

The cheap stuff at Costco/Canadian Tire, yes.
Epoxy is all about the prep work. Unless you're using hardcore chemicals to prep the surface, you will have a shitty product that'll have hot-pickup.

For your reference, the supplies to do a 20x20 garage with primer/basecoat/topcoat system is about $500-700.

starting this weekend with shelving and patching up holes, etc. Will be a winter long project but I'll post pictures when done.

Shelves, Cabinets, some pins (or holes for pins) for securing Car Ramps [for when you want to work under your car for misc.], and a sink.
An oil-filled heater would be suffice for heating a garage, they're the most efficient for the purpose you're trying to achieve.

I'll take a pic of my garage to give you an example, but it doesn't have to be as fancy. I spent ~$2,500 (including tools) on my garage while doing it myself... took me about 2 months from measuring, buying tools, cutting, and securing all the wood, handles, and everything else. Good stuff...

painted the garage flooring with epoxy and added another 2 layers of clear coat on it.. first time doing it, so it doesnt' look as nice as i wanted.

but for the price i paid, it's worth every penny.
and it's not slippery at all..the bundle comes with anti-skid stuff

i don't think so, epoxy floors are designed to resist a lot and bad conditions, so, go ahead, if you're in New Jersey or near, called these people
