Smoke test? On a petrol? Do you mean an emissions-test with the lamda probe up the exhaust? You only get smoke tests on diesels.

On the MOT? That test should not cause a CEL.

That test (smoke test) should not even be done on a petrol.

Agree with DXB. Shouldnt happen, unless at that given point in time you happened to get MAF or LAMBDA sensor problems.

If you can plug in a diagnostics and just scrub the codes. Run it for a few days and see if it comes back.

Smoke test= boost leak test in this circumstance. Connect the USB from the JB4 to your laptop and scan for codes.

Correct Idnan good news no boost leak from pipework bad news they think it is probably diverter valves not being strong enough!

Oh and the fault code.....seems both cats ingested some of the baby oil smoke and threw a hissy fit. Reset, all good.

Now....diverter valves....

Have you done any datalogs to see where your boost target and actual boost are at?

There is a test you can do on DVs which I think Mike (Doughboy) mentioned on here in the past.

Found it for you, don't know why I thought it was Mike who wrote it:

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13114

Scroll down the page and it shows exactly how to test them with a syringe and some piping

Whoa that is some serious underboost. Did they check your vacuum lines out properly?

Yeh they charged the vacuum system twice, no smoke leaks at all. He said that usually when they have a leaker in the smoke picks it up straight away. Being as the diverters can take a bit more pressure they said its usually those that fail as the JB4 seaks more boost.

You're more than welcome to borrow my Forge DVs for a couple of weeks as my car is no where near starting until after xmas. In fact if you pop down on Sunday I could swap them over for you and see if they work or not.

I rebuilt my Forge DVs with brand new pistons and O-rings about 500miles ago so they are in perfect working order.

It could also be the Boost solenoids are buggered.

Good to test with some spare DVs before wasting the cash!

Just waiting on a new Charge pipe and the G5 Board, then I'll be back into testing. Too busy at work and with socialising to sort it out!

To be honest the standards are usually fine even in the highly modified cars. I replaced mine as I was having issues but they didn't help. I would try a known working set before spending money like Phil said.
