Exclamation Oil around my spark plug cylinder #2

Hey guys few days ago my car started to cut out and hesitate eventually misfiring on WOT... scanned it and it said missfire on cylinder 2. I had this happen when i first bought the car but on #6 it ended up being a coil pack. I figured it was the same thing so decided to change the coil pack on #2, once i took the old coil pack out i noticed there was oil on the end rubber tip of the coil pack and some oil deep down around the plug? What could be the cause of this ? im assuming valve cover gasket ? is there a possibility oil could have creeped through from a spill while filling it from an oil change ? Already checked all other cylinders and only #2 had the bit of oil in it... Anyone else have this happen ??

Valve cover gasket -- Just another component in the N54 that doesn't last. Not as bad as the HPFP, but the gasket, fuel injectors & waste gates are bigger headaches then they should be

Thanks for the input everyone! I also assumed valve cover gasket right away to... seems to be a common problem on all the bmw's I've owned with a straight 6 actually haha. Just thought id check with the community . I cleaned all the oil around the plug on cylinder #2 and the car isn't misfiring anymore... if it obviously is the valve cover the oil will build up again in there shortly and i'll be back to square one, Then i'll be replacing the valve cover gasket... Surprised the valve cover went this quick considering my old E46 330i's went around 180Km im only at 130Km on my n54

Clean it well and run the engine while watching the area of the leak to see where it is coming from. A lot of valve covers develop cracks by cylinder #2 from the inside out. Right where the front edge of the crankcase vent valve is. The valve covers aren't that difficult, but you don't want to do it twice of you don't have to.

Oil around the threads, but not on the business end = VCG. 99% of the time.

The only thing that sucks more than our VCGs are our PS Reservoirs.

If yours isn't leaking, you aren't driving a BM. Lol.

Make sure you didn't spill any oil when adding to your car. I simply got a lil shaky and it ran down my engine cover down into the plug recess. Found it doing my plugs. I was all worried and I ran through my motor like a tweeker and nothing was wrong. It's common for #3& 4 to be dirty. I would clean everything real good and check back.

From the looks of it, its the same one they've used for years.

I swear I even saw a thread where they just put a CHF 11 sticker on the top of it and below that sticker the mold of the PS res still says ATF.

Thankfully these reservoirs are easy to swap out, just probably a bit messy.

Valve cover gasket. Had mine done by Ivan @ Strassesport & walnut blasting since he was already working on it. Made a huge difference.

Wipe the plug next time. If the oil is brand-new type of clean, you just spilled some. If it's not clean, it's like everyone else has said, valve cover gasket.
