ACT Clutch slip after 1 year.

Anyone having ACT clutch slip issues?

I replaced mine about a year ago (BM8-HDSD) ,approx 10,000 miles on it.

Noticed alot of clutch slip after a day of Autox and traveling 80 miles each way (4- 58 second runs).

I reused and resurfaced my stock DMF. Currently on a humble JB4 G5 Map 1 (13 psi)....

Very surprised.

Sorry to hear dude....

Could be many factors like defective clutch from the factory, but I suspect that the DMF was not resurfaced properly causing premature wear....

Something I soon have to worry about too

I had it done by a machine shop that has done them before.


We will see how it goes I guess. Guess I'm going to get a new DMF this time around.

Send the clutch back to ACT for inspection....that's a little ridiculous.

problem is its a wear item.. i havent heard of many companies standing behind there clutches after that amout of time..

Lol after 10k miles? A little premature I think... Hell if you told me 30k then I'd say you had a good run, but 10k is nothing.

I'm going to see how bad it gets. I'll do some pulls tomorrow when its warmed up without having been autox'd all day.
I would send it back but no way I would put another one back in. I know they won't cover the labor they would just give me another $500 clutch. Not risking that again.

premature or not, warranty is going to be tough on this.. i agree 10k is nothing for a clutch but it is a wear item and they have a number of things they can blame it on.. driver error... installer error... abuse...

Thanks for the pic. I noticed the step height was not adjusted when they re-surfaced the flywheel. Basically they made the flywheel deeper when they cut it. I think you can see how this will shorten clutch life since the mounting surface for the pressure plate is farther away from the friction surface. The right way to do it is to pull out those 3 dowel pins and mill the outer edge of the flywheel so the step height is just as deep as stock.

Damn, looks like the culprit. Probably would have been better off just scuffing it up.

Clutch holds up fine after an hour of driving and back to back pulls.

Just going to keep it in the back of my mind and on map . I'll save up for a new clutch and flywheel in the mean time.

Thanks for the tip on the flywheel.

Just an FYI most clutches only offer a 90-120 Day warranty. This is not to say your wear is premature or not, but they usually offer little recourse unless their is a clear indication of manufacturing defect. Good luck. With so many styles of driving habits, abuse, install error, and other conditions it's hit or miss.

After reading RB's post he makes a good point, which is another reason these clutch companies have stiff warranty's. Too many other factors take place with clutch installs.

I say you go back to the machine shop and have a little chat with them.
Maybe they can re-machine the DMF, but this time right.

I would also call ACT, explain the situation and they may be nice enough to offer you a more significant discount than normal for being a return circumstance....given the holidays an all

If all goes well, you'll have a new clutch for cheap and only be on for install $$.
