Alternative Water Filters to the Aquagleam?
Hi All
I currently have an Aquagleam filter which works very well against hard water spots, however, its longevity is quite short and buying a complete new one so often is going to be a very expensive exercise each time. Does anyone know of any alternatives to the Aquagleam filter available for order in the UK, for example something like the (Clear Inline Hose Filter Canister) available from Autogeek in the US? http://www.autogeek.net/clinhofianda.html Are there any home water softener companies in the UK that may be able to offer something similar to the autogeek unit? I believe the Aquagleam filter to be quite over priced for what it really is. LRS

To be fair the zymol one sounds like it lasts a few years whereas I get the impression with the aquagleams you'd be lucky to get a few months.
I'm interested myself as our water is terrible.

I've got a 300gpd RO unit at home which I use for producing clean water for my marine reef tank.
I normally finish my wash off with a couple of buckets of that! If you're interested, everything is available here: http://www.ro-man.com/

Yeah, water marks are caused by disolved solids in the water. My tap water has a TDS (total disolved solids) of ~350ppm, mineral water has a TDS of ~120ppm but RO water has a TDS of ~1ppm
![]() So, pour a watering can or 3 of RO over your car when you've fnished washing and there will be no water marks!

Good feedback & thanks;
I think Evil Diesel has a good point in just “cutting to the chase” and ordering one from autogeek. The only issue is if something is wrong when it arrives, or goes wrong shortly after using it. The Atlantic is a big gap to cover if things go wrong! Has anyone seen or used the “Peerless Water Filter System” from the The Polishing Company? http://www.thepolishingcompany.com/foryourcar.html The ‘Zymol Water Purification System’ and the ‘Peerless Water Filter System’ certainly look very interesting and both also look very similar to the one on the US autogeek site (less the Zymol badge). The Zymol, does however, seem very, very expensive and the Peerless much more reasonable. I would really like to know if the Zymol, autogeek and Peerless systems are all essentially the same units underneath??? NathanJT, are you able to give more detail regards what you have purchased from RO-Man, as there is a large number of items to choose from on their web site? LRS

LRS,
Well as I said, I actually purchased my RO unit to make pure water for my marine reef tank. It's just a happy coincedence that I can also use it for final rinsing my car. The only thing to consider is that the process of reverse Osmosis (RO) produces water at a good/reject ratio of about 1:6. So obviously 100 gallons of RO is going to need 700 gallons to produce. If you're on a water meter it might be worth looking at JUST a water softener. Contact RO-MAN they're normally very good when it comes to CS. Another company worth contacting is: http://www.osmotics.co.uk/

Yep that's right, so 1/2 an hour later it rains and dumps a load of sand all over it.
Then a few birds sh*t on it. Then you actually use the car (i.e. drive it, strange idea i know) and it gets filthy. Worth all the effort then ;-) |

Each to their own, I take great pride in cleaning my car so any recommendations for labour or time saving devices are gratefully recieved, its also very colour dependant with black cars being the worst affected by water marks, my silver 1'er is a doddle to clean, the 335D is twice as hard to get looking pristine.

Go to:
http://www.thepolishingcompany.com/foryourcar.html And get the new 'Peerless Water Filter System'. The Aquagleam filter is very expensive for such a short life product.

Hi Simon,
Have you bought the Peerless system? If so I'd be interested to know what you think about its performance. We have hard water here and my darker cars always suffered terribly (even the security glass got damaged by water spots). I went for the Aquagleam system just after they launched and I do get excellent results from it - but it is very expensive!! At the moment I'm using a combination set-up for best results (30ppm filter feeding into a 0ppm filter) and although I've reduced the line pressure and only use filtered water for the final rinse, it still costs me about £300 a year in filters. ![]() I see now that Ultimate Finish are showing a larger version of the Aquagleam http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/S...nufacturerId=2 which is 2.5 times longer (though I notice they've avoided saying that it will last 2.5 times longer) - I guess the new one could be more economical but it still looks dear against the Peerless. How are you getting on, does the Peerless filter as well??
