my oil change next service counter
My car has about 1500 miles, does the counter supposed to show 13,500 for next oil service? For some reason, my counter keep showing 15,000 for oil change.

That is very normal. The OBD computer takes into consideration of your habitual driving, including highway and surface streets, amount of starts/stops, and other factors. Consequently, it would not be unsual for your counter to show something other than 15K miles. There are people who reported that their first scheduled oil were at 15K, 17K, 19K, and even at 21K miles. My current estimated first oil change is to be performed at 17K. Currently driven 6700 miles and my counter shows 11000 miles to go before the next (first) oil change. This is even after I did my own oil change at 5100 miles. So drive on!

Car has probably been sitting for a while and this is one way of pushing oil to all the vital parts before combustion takes place and causes metal scaring on crankcase bearings and camshaft lobes. Research and discussions are hot and heavy in which type of oil to use. I leave this up to all that are interested:
There are some clear winners in oil companies and they are not at you local store. |
