Hey everyone!
I'm looking to trade my car for a 335d but don't know much on reliability or if there are any major issues that can occur. It's CPO w only 34k miles on it
I had a diesel vw and loved it and I love my BMW so I want to stick w these cars.

What are you all getting for mpg?

BMW can't seem to get our software programming right, so be prepared for updates. Other than that, people are concerned abut carbon buildup, but there haven't been enough cases to really label it a universal issue. Itll probably give you fewer issues than the injectors on your HPCR vee-dub. Get it with the CPO & you'll love it.

You can expect about 30mpg average if you drive with a good mix of highway/city and a medium-to-heavy foot.

Tons of torque, fun to drive and I get 23 mpg's city and that's throttling it everywhere I go. I usually get between 36mpg and 40mpg highway. Aside from a crystalized metering valve no issues to report in over a year and 25k miles. One thing to keep in mind, these cars/engines like to be driven hard - not that's a bad thing.

I've had my D for 3 years now and love it. I have about 70,000 miles and haven't had any issues at all. I have had my jbd installed for about 2 years as well and love it. Getting around 31 mpg overall. To me it's the the BMW that has the best of both worlds. It has great mpg and is faster than most cars on the road. The size is good as well. Good luck in your search.

If you have good diesel fuel near you, the car is worth the money and the minor problems it comes with (with BMW warranty it doesn't really matter to me). Any problems (injectors, carbon build up, EGR valve) this car has basically points back to diesel quality available in the US.

I would recommend it if you are looking for performance 1st and economy 2nd.

I would buy mine again in a heartbeat. I look for excuses to drive it. The only thing I would have done different is get the Sports package. I had convinced myself that I only wanted the base model suspension because of the ride height and two wheel sizes, etc. Although I love the car as it came, I have put Bilstein B6 dampers on at about 4k miles (now have 8k+), and am seriously considering major surgery on the suspension to get it to where I want it. Don't get me wrong. I was pleasantly surprised at the track with the stock suspension and Bilstein B6, but I know how much better it can be. Power is more than ample even without the tune job (which I will also be doing) and the mileage is great.

If you want to screw Porsche Owners heads and scare the ocasional GTR and still get over 30 mpg hwy. This is the ONLY car in the market to do so!!!! I'd buy mines all over again!!!

You live in Denver. Buy an S4. You will not save enough fuel with the 335d to make it worthwhile. -Mike

^yeah...I don't think you're going to find anyone here who wouldn't buy the diesel again if given the opportunity. Heck, I'm thinking about how I am going to eventually replace it with another one when the time comes, but I thinking by then it'll be more fun to overhaul the chassis and retro in an m50d engine & tranny

I'm thinking about picking up a 335d as well. I drive about 50K per year, it's all highway but when you spend that much time in your car you want to drive something you like. My current Jetta TDI has been exceptionally reliable through the 1st 90K but the seats are uncomfortable and I want something nicer. I also need an auto because wifey doesn't have any interest in driving a stick. The c300 and 335d are on the short list, I know both are very different cars What do you guys think will be less $ to maintain long term? I'd like to start doing regular maintence items myself. Any feedback is appreciated

Short term the 335d since I am betting you will still benefit from the remainder of the free maintenance. Long term, unless you get a lemon I bet it's a wash; although with the diesel there are a few more things that can go wrong i.e. urea system, dpf, etc.

I drive about 35-45k/yr and couldn't be happier ith the d. Make sure you get the sport package, though (for the seats if nothing else). Like you said, they are very different cars. If it means anything to you, I could probably get a family discount on the Benz, but I opted for the 3 series.

I purchased my CPO 2009 BMW 335d with 46k miles about 3 months ago. These are the things that the dealership had to do to it so far:

1.) Replace the cyclinder head (leaking fuel injectors)
2.) Replace the intake and outtake vales
3.) Replace all six fuel injectors
4.) Replace fuel pressure sensor
5.) Replace mass air flow sensor
6.) Replace drivers door panel (gap between panel and armrest)
7.) Replace drivers door control panel (paint peeling)

I get about 36 MPG, mostly highway with some city driving. I love my car, even with all the problems I had with it. It's fun to drive and you can't beat the power/torque with the great MPG.

What I like about it is that it's a CPO, which covers all the major issues for a total of 6 years or 100k miles, which is the reason why I bought it. I was specifically looking for a CPO, otherwise, I would never get it.

i bought mine a few months ago, and had injector problems that turned out to be a faulty computer. all was replaced under cpo. I just put the jbd module on about 2 weeks ago. Was set at 65% for week, then to 80. Definately pleased. rocket ship when brake boosting in 2nd gear. Pulls to redline, but with a diminished return up after 3750-4k in my exeirence. yeah about 34 mpg on highway (San Diego) 26 mixed. When shopping I picked this over WRX, GTIr, 335I, Genesis 3.8. All of which are still impressive. If you plan on heavy mods look elsewhere. but if you want an as is (for the most part) "sleeper" commuter car, this is an excellent choice. CPO a must. 420.

I am in love with the D. I have driven it from Seattle to LA with ZERO issues! Even had 42mpg on the dash estimate! I have even driven in the snow with snow tires and it was A-ok. SUVS will fly past you cause they are a-holes but hey. Ironically, I saw a WRX totaled on the way home, I assume from speeding.

I still remember, I was complaining how my mkv golf barely got 15mpg in the city (reallllly pissed me off) I went to visit a friend in California, he bought a D and he let me drive it while I was in town. I was in love as soon as I drove it. Passing power is just sex. Torque is sex. MPG is sex. I honestly think Diesel is the way of the future until something better than a hybrid is readily available. I will say, I am not a fan of the non m-sport suspension as I feel less than comfortable with high speed turns.
The only issue I have had was that the air vent adjuster tabs broke. But warranty fixed that.

I also added DTUK and wow, noticeable difference!

If you are patient enough, wait for the next Diesel models to come. 4cyl diesel with high MPG returns are supposed to come.

You'd get addicted to the power after a JBD or so, and the MPG's. I can't really think of another car out there with this great of a combo. I'm driving a 2013 Maxima for the time being (I know not really a comparison) while mines in the body shop, and I hate it. I get less power, with far less MPG's.
