Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 or Dunlop Winter Sport M3 DSST
I need to get a set of 18" Winter wheels and tires. The rims will be used for 2 winters (05-06 and 06-07) and by the 07-08 winter I plan to use my 162's for winter rims with the tires that I will purchase now. At that point, ~~March 2007 purchase a new set of summer wheels/tires.
So, after some browsing on Tirerack's website, I picked a combo of 18x8 Mille Miglia MM11-2 Sport Bright Satin Sil Paint: and 225/40VR18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25: with the ContiComfortKit The Grand Total comes to $1,831.47. I should be able to afford these by the end of this week, so I will probably place the order early next week. Im now not sure if its better to go with the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 DSST. I know that the Tirerack doesnt offer these in 18. I haven't called them to find out if its at all possible for them to get them though. Through Tirerack, the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 DSST are only available upto 17's: I know the Blizzaks have a great winter reputation. The Dunlop's have been pretty good to the members here that already have them in 17's. What do you guys suggest? Try finding the wheel/tire combo else where?

We have cars with both tyres.
Blizzak LM-25, 205/55/16 on VW: Good performance for the money, good on snow and wet roads, a little loud maybe. But I think most winters are... M3 DSST, 225/55/17 on e61: Good performance so far, quiet, but a bit loose road-feeling. But we put only about 300 miles on them. |

Blizzacks are pretty badass in the snow, the surprising thing about them for me is that they are really good in the dry as well.. I usually drive agressively with my summer tires, and with the blizzacks I still am able to drive fast. Sometimes I even forget I have snow tires on, its amazing. I've run them for one winter (last winter) in that heavy snow fall, and it got me through everything I threw at them (I was driving from philly to NYC on the NJT during, yes DURING, the blizzard and it was scary at times, but the tires came through, while countless SUVs were stranded on the shoulders of the highway.
Not saying anything badass agaisnt the dunlops since I've never used them, but I can defiantly recommend the blizzacks |
