First car purchase
This is the story of how I bought my first car. A 2008 328CI E92
i didnt know what i was doing when buying my first car, so I signed a bill of sale and then tried to negociate the price of adding options AFTER. lol. But the salesguy said no, obviously, cuz he had my john handcock for full price. So I got pissed off. I didn't understand why he wouldn't throw in some options to my car for free after I just signed $52K to his company. He wouldn't give me anything. So I emailed other dealerships in Ontario and asked them for a discount on the same car (without telling them I signed a bill of sale), and dealership #2 gave me the discount I wanted by adding the options I wanted for free. I signed a bill of sale with company #2, and put a downpayment of $1K. At this point I had two signed bills of sales and two downpayments of $2K and $1K with two different dealers!! haha. I called up the first dealership and cancelled my order (1 business day after it was ordered). As you can imagine, they weren't happy. They emailed me saying they wouldn't cancel the order, they wouldn't give me back my money, there's no cooling off period, I signed a contract, blah blah blah. But I knew that it would be months before BMW actually took the order and started to create my car, I knew the dealership was stalling and trying to get me to change my mind, or scare me by telling me they would drop off the car in front of my house anyway. I didn't get mad, I stayed cool, and in the end they cancelled my order and gave me back my deposit. Lesson here boys and girls, negociate the price before signing. I learned my lesson. |

Well, I'm glad you got this resolved. You have yourself to thank for to stick to your guns. Purchasing a car is still unfortunately not a pleasant experience and heavily favors the dealer!
Well before negotiating I would say the lesson to learn is to first do your homework thoroughly! Get to know exactly what options you need and would meet your budget and surf around to know what buyers are getting in terms of rebates.
