TPM Strange Occurrence - Need Your Feedback
3,600 miles on the 335i E93 and no issues with the RFTs or TPM system This past weekend I drove from Phoenix to Zions Natl Park in Southern UT. Again no issues during the trip.
Parked the car overnight in So. UT and in the morning when starting it an RFT warning message was on the Navi screen and a warning icon in the dash display. Went to the TPM screen and it showed an "orange" color on all 4 wheels (What??). None of the tires looked low (maybe with RFTs they never look low?), but I checked and added a little air (just in case) to all 4 tires (not over the 32/39 recommendation). Started the car again and the same warning message was present, so I Reset TPM. "Resetting TPM" appeared in the Navi screen for several minutes, finally shut the car off for the night with "Resetting TPM" still displayed. The next morning when starting the car, the dash TPM warning icon was still present. Checked tire pressure again and all were OK. Decided to drive the car to a nearby parking lot to check all the tires for nails or whatever. Absolutely nothing! However, just that short drive cleared the TPM warning messages Since everything appeared to be OK, drove the car back to Phoenix with no issues. Anyone experience this kind of scenario with the RFTs and TPM system?

Check your air pressure every 2000 miles atleast. Make sure they are at recommended level. RFT's are prone to trouble if you don't check for it. Might have just thrown off tire pressure sensor.

Never seen your situation, but I can say;
1. RFs maintain their profile even after losing considerable air pressure. That's one reason for the TPMS. 2. Whenever you change the pressure on a tire yoou need to reset the TPMS. As the owner's manual points out, this means driving the car until you see positive confirmation that the reset is complete. BTW, one time I got a TPMS warninig in one tire - when I checked it I saw that it had lost 14 psi. Turned out to be a screw.

I typically over-inflate a little... Like 40 psi all around. Over time, it had dropped to 32psi all around and I got a warning, It was red. I inflated them again and the light was gone. Make sure every tire is at minimum, inflated to spec (32 front, 35, rear) and go from there... If any of your rears are 32 or less, that may be why you're getting a light.

Well, I don't find find it strange cuz my TMPS goes off everytime I drive the car. I've had the dealer check the system twice....nothing.
Everytime the warning goes off I pull over and check my pressure...at this point its higher all around due to driving....but consistent front & back I'm chalking it up to german engineering and overly sensative sensors George

I'm bringing this back up.
I'm having the same issue. Started last Thursday or Friday when I left work. Checked pressure numerous times, added a minimal amount of air (really not needed), looked for anything in tires, and nothing. Saturday I'm putting the car on the jack and take a more detailed look at each tire. Also, I've reset the system LAST SATURDAY and still nothing!!! And no choice to reset it again. This is driving me insane. |
