fair price for "vehicle inspection"?
I have an 08, 328i with it about to hit 70k O well. My CPO is about to run out as well.
I want to take my car to the dealer to have them throughly inspect the car for ANY problems, including suspension, oil leaks, etc. I feel as though it might be more $ at the dealer, but I feel more comfortable with my car there (+free loaner) What is a fair price for this "inspection" from a dealer? How do I make sure they are actually going to CHECK my car, as opposed to looking at it for 15 minutes, and then giving me the "nothing found" or "could not replicate problem" ? I don't have a problem paying $100 bucks or whatever if they are going to acutally inspect my car AND fix any problems IF they find them. Or do i take the car to an Indy and THEN to the dealer if he finds problems?

I would think 100-150 would be fair. I would take it to an indy and get a complete list of what is wrong. Then you can call the dealer and tell them that you need the following looked at. Just make sure that the repairs the indy finds is under CPO. I am in the same situation as you and looked my car over really well before taking it to the dealer. I called the dealer and told them specific leaks and problems. All they put in the description/complaint is check for leaks. The dealer called and said they fixed the oil leak and it was the oil filter housing gasket. The rear diff is wet and clearly leaking but they made no mention of that so I had to tell the SA to check it out. The dealer may want to place as little as possible due to the warranty about to run out.

... where are common points to look for oil leaks?
I know that is a dumb question, but there are a lot of plastic covers over engine parts and its hard to see. I know to check the valve cover, what else? Where should I specifically be looking for oil leaks or other problems that I could visually "spot" ?

Around $100 is fair for a basic check. VAC Motorsports in Philadelphia does a most thorough one:
