Do you guys trust these aftermarket sound places to do stuff?

I dunno maybe I am wrong but our cars seem a bit more complicated and not as universial plug in play as other cars. I have an idrive and from my understanding sound and everything runs through that. I don't think I trust anyone besides bmw techs and even then only the best know what they are doing with the idrive.

You are lucky you came to this board because this is where the most knowledge of these systems has accumultated and even most BMW techs
do not know the stereo and electronics in these cars as well as the people on here that have actually found the correct way to modify the sound
system with out ruining the car.

You should start your reading and home work at this thread

These may also be of use to you though there is some duplication.

I actually don't trust the average Audio Shop to do work in my car, I've seen them break panels in my friends cars, some have lost iDrive function, one friends Idrive screen actually stopped turning on completely, etc.
I waited till I was comfortable enough to DIY it. Thanks to Technic and his miracle harnesses I'm finally going to install a sub in my trunk. Hopefully this weekend.

There's plenty of shops in Florida that know what they're doing. If you near Orlando, check out Octave.
