Tire / Wheel Warranty

Dealership offers coverage for:
3 yrs is $399
5 yrs is $599

Did you get it?
Is the price negotiable?

I have 2 weeks to decide. Some friends w/ BMWs said to get it, because the run flats are really easy to damage. If you get one damaged tire & wheel within the warranty, it more than pays for itself.

I got it because I think it is worth it. If you have a 3 year lease, do the 3 year deal. If you are buying the car and will have it for > 5 years, go for the 5 year deal.

It doesn't include worn out tires for cause of replacement.

BUT, if your tire happens to get damaged on its own ... lets say at 2.9 years, they do NOT prorate the tire value/life. They will replace it with a brand new tire.

I was thinking about getting it and then aiming for the biggest potholes Boston can deliver.

Yes...that thought also crossed my mind...but I was thinking nails ...potholes could mess with your alignment.

You might as well get a life insurance with BMW too.....

I have to say there are an abundance of potholes here in Boston. I've hit a bunch of them and cringe every time. I decided to not get the warranty as I will probably get some new wheels and tires next summer.

I got the insurance - $399 for 3 years (I leased). A friend of mine had an E46 with Sport Package, and took nails in all of his tires several times and damaged all of his wheels to varying degrees. I've taken a lot of nails in previous cars (I visit a lot of construction sites). I don't see myself damaging my wheels due to carelessness, but my wife, at some point will drive the car & will most likely nail a curb; I see it as insurance that I won't need to divorce her after she does it! There's not a lot of sidewall to protect those 18" rims.

At least for my family's volvo since 1996 in Toronto.... there is only 1 occasion of actual flat tire (repaired by filling it) and all other tire damage are caused by accidents that is reparied by insurance anyway......

My gut feeling tellls me it does not worth it...

So assuming I NEVER damage the wheel ... the tires on tirerack.com are about $180 per tire.

What are the odds of replacing more than 2 runflats due to puncture/road hazzard ????

I keep hearing from people that driving on a flat runflat tire will destroy the steel belting inside and require a replacement. In my old car, I would get a nail in my tires maybe once or twice a year. f the leak isn't too severe, I would plug, re-inflate, and keep the tire on the car. Is this the case with runflats???

I got the 5 years one for $399. They will replace the tire/wheels without any questions; the only thing is not covered is worn out tires.

Did you have to negotiate or has the price gone up?

My dealer would not budge from their prices.

I did have to negotiate the price. I also got the 6 years/100,000 miles free maintenance for $1200 (it was $1799). You got to talk to their sales manager or fianacial advisor.

The thing I don't like about it -- you have to bring it to the dealer. What if you're out of town? The dealer's not going to reimburse you for the tire you need to get.

6yrs/100,000 mile maintenance upgrade should be about $995. That is what my dealer quoted.

hmmmmmm ..... your dealer might be playing the cash shuffle game
