Wonder how BMW is going to handle this.. This wont be something you can just update the firmware and get the stations. You will need a whole new module for it to work. Last date I heard was 2015 old radios wont work anymore as everything is being switched to the XM 2.0 which will have greater bandwidth

They are... siruis radio is highly compressed and sounds pretty crappy. My friend was just showing me this today.. When you turn it up it just sounds loud and muddy.

Can you provide a source to where you read this? I'm curious to read it myself but I can't seem to find a link to anything that states they are getting rid of their old equipment's access.

I already wish my "factory" sirius module sounded better. I bought a used on one here, coded it my self, and like WTF?? sounds like garbage.
My xm roady xt sounded better through the aux input than the oem set-up. I still like it bettter by being able to control it through the head unit and no wire mess. I have a '97 crew cab diesel with a kenwood head-unit, built in satellite, and IT sounded better too. Problem is, a bimmer head unit change over is not as simple, albeit possible. BMW will probably rape us if they make a retrofit for our "older" cars. cheers jz

I've been watching this. They still say
2013 launch. And yes probably new tuner altogether. Several snipits here and they are 2011: http://www.digitalradiomagazine.com/tag/sirius-xm-2-0/
