Wonder how BMW is going to handle this.. This wont be something you can just update the firmware and get the stations. You will need a whole new module for it to work. Last date I heard was 2015 old radios wont work anymore as everything is being switched to the XM 2.0 which will have greater bandwidth

They might not say it but they still have plans to kill off the old technology.

Hopefully they increase the quality, cause current Sirius/XM sounds like garbage. Sounds like 96k mp3.

They are... siruis radio is highly compressed and sounds pretty crappy. My friend was just showing me this today.. When you turn it up it just sounds loud and muddy.

Can you provide a source to where you read this? I'm curious to read it myself but I can't seem to find a link to anything that states they are getting rid of their old equipment's access.

They aren't saying it but they are.. You are not going to find a release from them that has a date when it will be shut down. But the way technology works you will be wishing you had XM 2.0 in a few years when they start reducing content. There is a long thread about it here.. Also, it looks like they have plans to switch there services to work over 4g cell towers. So they have a ton going on. pretty unstable company if you ask me..

I already wish my "factory" sirius module sounded better. I bought a used on one here, coded it my self, and like WTF?? sounds like garbage.

My xm roady xt sounded better through the aux input than the oem set-up. I still like it bettter by being able to control it through the head unit and no wire mess. I have a '97 crew cab diesel with a kenwood head-unit, built in satellite, and IT sounded better too. Problem is, a bimmer head unit change over is not as simple, albeit possible. BMW will probably rape us if they make a retrofit for our "older" cars.

cheers
