This is a great educational video even though it's OLD, on a LSD works....really don't understand why BMW doesn't put one in every car it makes, this video is from the 1930s!!

Amazing.... Brilliant find. I had a good understanding before but this really simplifies it.
![]() But isn't this showing the use for open differentials? Which is what all modern non M cars use anyway Last edited by DarkAnt335i; 02-13-2013 at 05:16 AM.. |

I can understand why a standard car wouldn't come with an LSD as standard, as i doubt 98% of its customers would ever know the difference. Especially since we have all of these 'wonderful' electric nannies.
But i don't understand why they don't offer LSD as an option like in the 80's and 90's. I owned 2 e30 325is's which had LSD's and made for a lot of fun. BMW as with a lot of other manufacturers seem to be more geared towards safety than outright fun of driving. Which is why we have DSC, DTC, ESP, RSPCA, NSPCC ![]() |

I think it is because 99.9% of all BMW's aren't driven anywhere nearly hard enough to require an LSD, meaning it'd be a massive waste of money. Not to mention that open diff's do just find on most BMW's. Even the M135i has an open diff and isn't spoiled due to not having an LSD.
I think an LSD is something every car enthusiast thinks they should have without appreciating the need or application. For track driving, it would improve stuff, for the majority of road driving, i can't see how an LSD would improve anything, let alone be "neccessary" |
