My E93 is F**ked again
My fuel pump has just gone again.
I think that I'm going to reject the car. I've had the car for five months and it's been in and out of the dealership constantly in thet time. So far I've had 2 fuel pump failures, the roofs packed up, and there's some strange noises coming from under the bonnet. It was supposed to be going in for three days in september for a BMW tecchie to go over it, but now I think I'm going to have to make a decision as to whether I keep the car or not. This is just crap. £40,000 and the bloody thing keeps breaking down!!! Is the new Audi A5 conv going to have a metal roof? If so it's goodbye from me............

Really sorry to hear this. What happened to your roof? I think my patience would have run out by this stage and would seriously consider asking for a replacement. Let us know how you get on.

So is this your 3rd pump failure? This is a real shame. I remember back in March when we were both full of expectation and now those feelings have all gone.
I count myself lucky that so far I've just had the one pump failure and we've just done a 3 week 3k mile round trip to Italy without an issue . Why don't you ask them (BMW GB) to give you a new car with the same spec at no cost to yourself. They weren't averse to this idea when I suggested it back in May after my pump went. Hope something positive comes out of this for you. Miopyk ![]() |

This is just not good enough, as soon as the sun comes out your car goes wrong!!
Its got to go, I would not let them try another repair, you have given them enough chances. As Miopyk says get onto BMW directly and get them to get you a new one, that way they would have to give you a car in the meantime. If you leave it to Snows, they may not pass on your full anger at the situation, especially if a replacement comes from their normal allocation. |

Also noticed last week that the top 5 lines of the heated screen do not work (only the bottom 2/3 of the screen clears) - this does not look an easy 'screen to swap!! Today my lad noticed that 'his' rear speaker was not working - checked his theory out by using the balance/fader and directing it to rear n/s speaker - sure enough it was dead. An hour later when I got home the speaker was workin again!! I am also getting fed up of visiting my dealer. They had it for 4 weeks to fix the steering rack. A week to replace the fuel pump. In again to sort a badly aligned wing and had to return to collect the missing ipod lead and have new mat fixings (sticky pads had fell off!) Let me know how things go - I had an Audi before and it was trouble free motoring and good dealer support. I feel BMW could learn some lessons from them!! Paul |

What do these noises sound like - mine sounds very tappety - changes according to the revs. Again a difficult noise to describe but the BMW tech who came out when the rack failed said it was the new high pressure Piezo injectors but I am not so sure!!
Quite a few friends have commented on the noise it makes - not normal for a brand new 6-pot! Paul |

Thanks for your comments guys
![]() Z4Beemer The roof was failing to close correctly. It would not complete the cycle i.e. it didn't tighten up. Eventualy, the roof stopped working altogether. The fault was diagnosed as a problem with a micro swith in the mechanism. But since that was fixed, the roof now rattles something rotten. I took the car back to my dealer and they said that they were going to arrange for a speacialist techice to come and check the car over because of all of the faults. Paul The symptoms are the car takes 3 - 4 seconds turning over before it starts. It will then run for a few minutes and then begin to misfire (presumably as the fuel is not reaching the engine) and the car the goes into creep mode Yhe noise that is coming from the engine is a metallic chirping sort of noise. I get it whilst driving along at slower speeds (sub 30) I've also noticed a 'pinking' noise (again at slower speeds). You used to get this on older cars and I think it was someting to do with the fuel mixture and the valves but not sure, so I think there might be a more fundamental problem with the engine which could be causing the fuel pump to fail. I'm going to talk to my dealer in the morning to see what can be done about replacing the car and if I'm not satified I'll be straight onto BMW UK. Actually, I think I'll contact them anyway just to log the fault so it's on their records. I ca'nt really say how disapointed I am with this. I've had 3 other BMW's all of which have been excellent cars and extreeemly reliable. So it's just so frustrating that the most expensive of all of the has turned out to be a complete pile of crap. I'll let you all know how I get on on Tuesday. Cheers Keith

It's a shame you've ended up in this position, but you should speak to BMW UK, no matter what happens with the dealer. I'm sure something can be sorted out for you, as long as you remain steadfast in your approach & don't allow them to distract your attention, in the ways they are trained to do. Have everything you need to discuss with them written down & don't deviate from it. If you can't get any further, then just mention 'solicitor'- it usually does the trick! ![]() All the best. Viv |

Yes, good luck speaking to the dealer tomorrow.
As Viv said, write down every last detail and talk through all of it. I think we can all expect things to go wrong from time to time, but the amount of time you have been inconvenienced is way more than reasonable.

I have had BMW UK replace a car before. one tip be patient and polite even if you are p***ed off. I think my attitude is what in the end made BMW UK hand over another car. Simply put I bypassed the call centre/customer services and wrote a very long email detailing every issue with the faulty vehicle. said email was then sent to the BMW UK General Manager and also their UK/EMEA Customer service manager, these two corporate big wigs obviously passed my email down the chain (bit of delegation is a good thing) but point is they only passed it a level or so down and my case was handled by a senior BMW UK mgr. lets just say everything moved VERY swiftly after that especially as I kept the UK/EMEA big boss cc'd on every communication

Good news,
BMW have agreed to replace my car with a new one ![]() ![]() They are going to fix my current one which I will then use until the new one arrives. I must admit, BMW sorted this out pretty quickly. I took the car into the dealer at 10am and by 1pm received a call saying that they would replace it. I'm just waitng for a delivery date now, but at last there's light at the end of the tunnel. I've asked them if they would consider upgrading me to a 330D, but I don't hold out too much hope. Keith
